An expensive folly,

My first Swingline 520e last about a year. It just suddenly stopped working. We hardly used it and certainly didn't stuff it. It just stopped working. Because we still had tons of Swingline staple cartridges, we bought another 520e. Very stupid mistake. The second one lasted about 9 months, as a usage rate of about twice a week.
These staplers are lemons and you should stay away. I am here on Amazon trying to find another better model.

Problems in old age?,

I purchased this model on close-out from one of the big office stores. It worked like a charm for a few years in a busier-than-typical home office. I got jams and cleared then; about three years ago, something happened and I called customer support and the lady there was a huge help in fixing whatever was wrong. I called customer support today and the guy would barely speak to me as it was beyond the two-year warranty (I have had it maybe six years). He offered the standard advice and that did not work. He also gave me the name of the repair facility so I am about to call there and ask about repairs. The retail in Swingline's catalog is about $160. My stapler has lived a very nice life w/o being pushed -- but Acco/Swingline's reticence to help more is frustrating. Did the rep have another trick to offer had it been under warranty? What was he holding back? He was incredibly passive and of little help so should I need to replace it, I am not sure it will be with one of its products. Oh, forgot to mention-- I only paid $25 or so -- I have no idea why the low price other than it was a clearance item. So I can't complain about my investment; my chief beef now is with Acco/Swingline's "help" -- and this after probably 8 pushes on the phone tree and five minutes on hold.
