Works great but doesn't last long,

This review is from: Swingline LightTouch Heavy Duty Paper Punch (A7074357B) (Office Product)
I purchased this punch less than one year ago. I use it in my home business which is tutoring--only one person uses it and it hasn't lasted one year. What happens is the internal parts break around the punch heads so you would end up having to replace all three punch heads and become a mechanic to replace them. I learned, after calling the company, that the punch heads are much more than simply the small pin that cuts paper on this model--it's an entire metal piece that hangs from a metal bar. So, I'm throwing out my hole punch after about 8 months of use...

This is one of the most useful items I've bought for my classroom. Over the years I've spent hundreds of dollars buying cheaper three hole punches just to have them break within a year. This punch is so durable and easy to use that my fourth graders can use it. I'm extremely happy with the product.

In my view, there is no sense buying any other three-hole punch than this one if you have many holes to punch. Twenty five dollars or so--even $50 or more in a retail store--will get you a cheap, lightweight punch that will be no fun to use and will be inefficient, so your money is wasted there. This heavyweight punch will effortlessly cut holes in twenty pages at a go and do a lot more than that if you want, while flimsier punches demand a lot of effort just to cut five pages and will jam every time with ten, even if the manufacturer tries to tell you the punch will cut twenty (a cheap punch simply cannot cut twenty pages at a time). Who wants to spend much time punching holes or put much energy or thought into the task? And worse, who wants a fiddly punch the purchase of which will always be regretted? Electric punches cost a lot of money, will surely break untimely, and are not easier or more effective to use than this punch. This punch is a great value on Amazon. I saw it for $75 at Staples and bought it for $55 on here. Save your money buying cheap punches and never mind electric ones: just snag this workhorse on Amazon. It looks sharp, and it is sharp, and it actually is heavy duty and requires only a light touch.

I bought one of these for my office, and all my co-workers loved it so much that I had to buy another one. It's great for larger-than-normal stacks of paper, it never jams, and it's so easy to empty the hole clippings. The lever is like butter just punching right through all the paper you put in there! I would buy this again in a second and highly recommend it.

Great Paper punch. I have less trouble with this kind of punch to get papers in consistently straight. Great investment.

This is a little expensive, but I think it is worth the extra money. I had to replace a number of cheaper hole punchers and it turned out to cost me more in the long run. I like this product and will purchase if ever needed in the future.

I am the "fixit" guy at our office. I am responsible for finding solutions to the everyday problems that occur during the business day. About four years ago our existing hole punch wasn't getting the job done, it was dull and expensive to repair. Since I have some co-workers with wrist issues and they were struggling to use the Bates Hummer to punch multiple pages for a weekly price catalog I was looking for a better machine. I found this punch and decided to give it a try. All of my co-workers immediately noticed that this design punched with much less effort. I am about to replace the punch heads. As with all cutting devices after much use the punches are dull. Since the heads are available here on Amazon, I will install three new punches once they arrive and I'm sure we will be back to like new performance. If not, I will update my review. Incidentally the old punch has replaceable heads at $38+ each. Since the price on the replacement heads is only $5.25 each, the Swingline is a much better deal. I recommend this punch!

This is NOT a 7-hole punch and cannot be used to punch the correct holes for a 7-hole datebook. Do not purchase this unless you want a basic 3-hole punch.
