This stapler has substantial heft and a pretty big footprint, but is worth the space it takes on your desk. It really IS easy to use, and perfectly staples thru 70 sheets at a time (or just two.) I actually counted out 70 sheets of paper to try it, and was amazed that it worked! The best thing, however is how EASY it is to staple thru even a THICK stack of paper - like a presentation deck, for instance. It requires high capacity staples (not the standard kind) but they are not expensive, and the stapler includes a good supply to get started with. Also, you'll only ever need ONE staple at a time, believe me! Recommended!

I bought this b/c i staple 40-50 pgs at a time. I was surprised the 1st time I used it. It has some sort of leverage system built into it, besides the obvious lever, that makes it staple easier than a regular stapler. looks great works great. Highly recommended.

In my line of work (finance) the entire industry seems to revolve around killing trees. From the enhanced amount of regulatory requirements, to the fact that everything we show people is on charts and graphs, it all generates large stacks of paperwork. In this world, I do a lot of stapling. I then transport said stapled materials with other stacks of paper. Then they get filed for, apparently, eternity with all of their friends.

Point being... staplers are oddly something that I have become very aware of and are extremely important to my sanity.

In an effort to find a stapler that could handle large stacks of paper, bend the staples to where they wouldn't catch on other paper, not jam, and be easy to refill; I came across the Swingline Optima 70.

One Word Review: "Success"

Pros:
- It can staple 70 sheets without breaking a sweat.
- Has a nice, professional look to it.
- The novel base-plate bends the staples in a way that smooths things out quite nicely on the back of the paper. This occurs with 5 sheets or 50 sheets.
- I could not make it jam. (I stomped on the top lever with my foot, hard and fast, and it didn't phase it - not recommended)

Cons:
- This thing is huge. I mean it is a Godzilla stapler. It is almost intimidating. I feel like I am compensating for something.
- A mix of high quality materials and cheap plastic worry me about long term durability.
- Loud. (It is assisted after all)

Detailed Review:
It really does everything that it is advertised to do. I have no worries that I will have a job that it can't handle. The black areas on the stapler are rubberized and feel good to the touch.

This really works. Very happy with this purchase. The staple on the other side of the paper does look different than a regular staple, but the bond is stronger. With most hi-capacity staplers, you need a minimum number of pages to staple, and many times need different staples and you have to re-load depending in many sheets you are doing. But you can do any number from1-70 sheets all with the same staple. Terrific product.

After sporadic light use, the stapler stopped working. I took it apart and discovered that the feeder (the brass thing inside with the staples) had jammed and the tension spring had snapped. There was still enough of the spring remaining that I was able to fix it but the stapler is still touchy - sometimes not closing the staple, sometimes not stapling at all. I find that I actually have to exert more pressure to get this stapler to function correctly than I had to with my last one - not what I call "Reduced Effort".

Anyway, maybe I just got a bad one as the other reviews here seem to be really happy with the product. At least the staples that it uses (Optima 35550) seem to be strong and durable, even if the stapler is not.

We ordered this item for use in a tax office. We have many tax returns that need heavy duty staples. We have an old stapler that worked but everyone hated to use it. This one works so easily it is great. The flat staples make sure that nobody is going to get hurt on an open edge of the staple. I would recommend it to others.

Received item quickly and as described, however, definitely does not staple 70 sheets of paper. At 20 sheets it was not performing as it should. Definitely would not recommend this product. My WalMart $2 stapler works better.
