Better Than a Bed,
By Moe Masters (Wichita, KS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Omni Swings n' Things 550 Taino Rainbow Hammock (Lawn & Patio)
Proof positive that you don't have to hanging under a palm tree on a white sandy beach to fully appreciate the hammock experience! These hammocks are perhaps the most blissful place one can rest, and it really doesn't matter whether they are hung between support walls in your living room or strung between two trees in the backyard. I have spent countless hours perfecting my hammock posture and in the course of this perfection have test-driven a whole bunch of hammocks. I can, with absolute certainty, tell you that this hammock is the stuff dreams are made of. It is constructed of a durable and soft cotton that breathes with you and doesn't cause itchiness or that unpleasant "Plastic" feeling. When it is strung up right, you can either lay horizontally or vertically - it matters not because it's amazingly comfortable either way. Some of my most peaceful sleep and dreamiest dreams have come from hammock-induced slumber. I strongly recommend it for any and everyone considering their sleeping alternatives. The hammock isn't banished to the tropics anymore, and in fact looks just great in my Kansas living room. Trust me - get a little tired and get a big ole hammock! This one in partiucular will make your socks roll up and down!

Sleep in comfort,
By James Prentice (Topsham, ME United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Omni Swings n' Things 550 Taino Rainbow Hammock (Lawn & Patio)
I have been sleeping in hammocks for five years now. I have had problems sleeping in beds for years. Because of my wide shoulders I cannot sleep on my side without "throwing my back out". I had purchased a bed that cost a couple of thousand dollars and when that did not take care of the problem, I did some thinking about how people have slept over the course of human history. It occured to me that peoples who slept in hammocks seemed to stay with them longer then societies that slept on mats or beds of various kinds. I also found that hammocks seem to have evolved in all of the warm climate areas and since we no longer sleep out doors (not here in Maine anyway), I thought it made some sense to give it a try. I have been sleeping very comfortably in a "Mayan" style hammock for these five years and needed to replace mine. I bought the "Taino" and found it to be more comfortable to sleep in than the "Mayan" style. It does not sag in the center as much, so that my arms are not pressed up against me, that might be something you would enjoy, but not I. Over time the smaller threads of the "Mayan" style get snagged and broken and repairs can be a little difficult when more then one are broken. Because of my three dogs, I need a hammock that can withstand some abuse (Yes, one of them has learned to sleep in the hammock with me) and the thicker cord is a positive in that respect. My wife asked me to buy her a new "Taino" hammock to replace hers, so I ordered another one today. If you are looking for a great nights sleep, this is the hammock I would recommend. Peace,

Worth it!,

It was more than I expected. It was easy to hang, looks good, and most of all it is as comfortable as advertised. Too bad I don't have more places to hang more hammocks.

I just bought my second Rainbow Hammock. I bought my first one a couple of years ago and left it outside in all kinds of weather. It was situated in full sunshine and got hammered by the elements. It did fade, and eventually the strings began to break -- and I began to panic that I would not find another hammock that suited me so well. It's lightweight, it's comfortable, and it's relatively inexpensive. There are no spreaders, so when it is not occupied, it is a skinny sling of colorful net. This is nothing like the heavier rope hammocks, so it might not be for everyone. I do not have small children, so I cannot speak to how this hammock would work with children. But for me -- I was very glad to find that amazon.com still sells the hammock.

Comfortable and Sturdy,

My family and I are quite happy with this hammock. It is comfortable and sturdy. Since it doesn't come with the hanging hardware, future buyers make sure to order it from amazon at the same time ("HAMMOCK KIT - SCREWS" by American Science & Surplus). Otherwise you might find yourself on a long search. The only other place where we came across it was Wal Mart.

This Hammock is made for a big man....,

I ordered this for my dad for christmas. I was worried that it wouldn't fit him because he is a large man, but thought what the heck I'll use it if he can't. I opened the box and I wasn't sure it looked like a sack of ropes. Then I began unfolding, and unfolding, and unfolding and before long the thing was stretched at least 14 feet across my kitchen. The loops are just great and seem so strong. The only drawback was its not very soft but i guess it wouldn't be all that sturdy made out of chenille would it. Now all I need to do is buy him a home depot giftcard so he can get so sturdy posts and hardware and he is set!!!

I love the hammock, it compares in the great quality of my previous taino hammock from another site. The only problem is the hammock is a little to large for the stand I have which has fit all the other large hammocks I have owned. The only way I have been able to fix it so I don't touch the ground has been to wrap it around one side of the stand.

standard mayan hammock, nothing special,
This review is from: Omni Swings n' Things 550 Taino Rainbow Hammock (Lawn & Patio)
I looked at several colorful mayan hammocks on Amazon and elsewhere. I got the impression, which was incorrect, that this hammock was larger and had the necessary hardware included. I should have selected one of the other less expensive ones.
