I use this item and like it for three reasons:

(1) It's a space-saver, compared to a regular edger. I just don't have that much room in my garage.

(2) It saves money, because you can put this on the end of your Shindaiwa head/shaft assembly, and then by purchasing the string trimmer attachment, you will have two tools but only one gas engine to worry about. Your total cost will be less than buying two separate tools.

(3) It is easy to "aim." Once I got the hang of it, I found it easy to avoid hitting the sidewalk or driveway with the blade.

As another reviewer noted, it's not suitable for edging around flower beds and the like, so if you need that capabililty, this is probably not the model for you.

To do a good job, you need to have the engine just about maxed out on RPMs, so all of your neighbors are going to be treated to the sound of your efforts... if that's a factor.

I don't think it is as powerful as a regular gas-powered edger, so it is a good idea to edge often. If you try to edge your sidewalk or driveway after letting things go for a month or two, you will have quite a chore on your hands.

I recommend it, especially for someone who plans to use it only to edge the sidewalk and driveway of a small- or medium-sized lot.

I own it, I use it, but I don't particularly like it. That's not an indictment of Shindaiwa or Swisher either - it's a comment on this type of edger. Blade edgers do nothing more than cut a slot. They work best on walkway and curbing edges, but they also can easily chip the curb or walk edge. They are virtually useless as bed edgers where they really can only be recommended to keep an existing trimmed edge clean ... and where a string trimmer works just as well.
