I discovered Dashboard Confessional on the highly popular/controversial software program, Napster. 3.0 out of 5 stars Emo to the max
Even though many see Chris Carraba as a talented musician, with which i agree, this cd is just too emo for most. He cries and whines through 11 tracks and no matter how catchy the lyrics or guitar parts, it's just plain depressing. If thats what you're looking for (plus some decent acoustic guitar and vocals) then this is the cd for you. However, I, for one, enjoy music...

I discovered Dashboard Confessional on the highly popular/controversial software program, Napster. Needless to say, after listening to a sample song or two, I went out and special ordered this CD from the local On Cue. WOW. I haven't changed CDs in my CD player yet!!! Chris Carrabba, who IS Dashboard Confessional, has one AWESOME voice and his lyrics are incredible. They are the most inspired lyrics that I've heard in a long time and I found myself relating to several of the songs. I also really like his accompaniment style with his acoustic guitar. Everything is acoustic and it all sounds really good!! If Dashboard Confessional isn't big now, they soon will be...Just listening to his music has made me feel inspired! Not enough good things can be said about this CD...I highly recommend purchasing Dashboard!

5.0 out of 5 stars My definition of Emo, June 20, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Swiss Army Romance (Audio CD)
I've never been so blown away by one CD. After a messy breakup with my ex, Emo I found to be like soothing cup of hot chocolate. Although the first few listens I had myself thinking, 'what's so great about this?' But after I listened a few more times, and read over the lyrics, I had tears in my eyes... The feel this music gives me is addictive. Every day I have to have my 'Dashboard fix' or I go insane.. Dashboard has unbelieveably relateable lyrics. 'Again I go Unnoticed' is my all time favorite song by DC.. It descibes a couple's relationship as they grow apart, stop talking, and of course the singer's hurt and pain caused by this. On 'Living in your Letters', he pours on over how much he cares for his ex girl. My favorite line (the last line) from that song is, 'Turning to you is like falling in love when you're ten..'. I feel every word he says. Although this is DC's best CD ever, I still strongly recommend you buy every one by him. All are amazing. If you love an acoustic, sad, 'cry yourself to sleep' sound, DC is for you. 'The Places..' is an exceptional CD. The MTV Unplugged CD may annoy you since several tracks have the crowd singing along..They don't bother me but I bought it to see the DVD anyway. I am an enormous DC fan. Some poeple don't appreciate DC because he's too soft, or too sulky. But the emotion he pours out is just as strong if not stronger than that on albums by other Emo bands with a harder sound.. Shouldn't Emo be music full of emotion that you feel, that makes you cry it's so strong? Dashboard is my definition of Emo, and if you can appreciate a softer sound, he won't disappoint you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goosebumps, August 29, 2001

Goosebumps. That's what listening to Dashboard Confessional's A Plain Morning is giving me. My girlfriend is away at college and this song really hits a nerve like no other. If you can appreciate heart-felt music, then you can appreciate this album. I've never heard anyone work so much magic with just a guitar and a voice. If you need therapy after a break-up, or because you miss someone, or if you just want to listen to something that will make you appreciate a loving significant other that you might have, get The Swiss Army Romance and listen to it - over, and over, and over. You don't have to like any certain genre of music to love this album. Word to Chris for putting out some awesome tunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow, June 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Swiss Army Romance (Audio CD)
To begin with, Chris has an amazing voice just dripping with emotion... he knows how to make music and make it how it should be... if you can relate to this album, you'll love it, if you don't you'll hate it... simple as that... the vocals, lyrics, and acoustic guitar perfectly describes the pain and sadness that often comes with being in love, especially an imperfect one, and basically dealing with life... this album is truly sincere and not something to ignore... its raw and pure... definitely not something put together in a studio for the sake of radio... Chris is incredibly talented and this album is proof of that

This is just an all around great album. From the great guitar riffs to the deeply emotional lyrics, this record delivers on so many levels. What I enjoyed the best about this CD was the fact that it wasn't like "The Places That You've Come To Fear The Most" in this way. It was pure guitar. No drumming. No Bass. Just a guy with a guitar and some of the best lyrics that you will probably ever hear. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars emo grabs me by the lapel and shakes me awake, December 12, 2001
By
Nathan (a hick town in texas) - See all my reviews

As a product of the early nineties grunge-punk culture, I was amazed by my attraction to the acoustic emo band Dashboard Confessional. I had recently become a Weezer fan, and discovering that their poignant emo-style lyrics were what really made me love them, I was completely set up when a friend introduced me to DBC. Chris's lyrics are excellent, as are his voice and guitar work. Background vocals by a girl named Jolie and occasional dubbed in orchestration really round off this amazing album. Most tracks are sorrowful emo tunes, but a few are more whimsical such as "So Long Sweet Summer". The fourth track on the album, viciously attacking the life a club-going college girl, is venomous with satire and contains more angst than any macho power-chord band i've ever heard. And guys, don't worry - liking emo music doesn't make you a wuss, it just means you're not a braindead savage animal.
