This review is from: Swiss Bernese Oberland - New 4th Edition - A Travel Guide with Specific Trips to the Mountains, Lakes and Villages with New Section Walk Zurich by Philip and Loretta Alspach (Paperback April 2008) (Paperback)
We had a number of guidebooks among us when my husband and I hiked the Oberland with two other couples, but this is the one that proved invaluable. The authors not only gave us accurate assessments of the scenery and level of difficulty of the hiking trails they cover (our main interest), but also tipped us to many sights and activities we'd most likely have missed without their insider knowledge and recommendations. Their cogent discussion of Swiss transportation proved particularly helpful in determining which rail passes would pay off for us.

This book was easy to use and really helpful in prioritizing my activities when I visited the Alps recently. It was small enough to carry in my waist pack for reference as I traveled around and gave clear instructions on how to navigate the trains, cable cars, etc. If you're going to the Bernese Oberland Alps, definitely take this along! (I also highly recommend staying in Wengen!)

Great little book - small, succinct and easy to use. We used it on a 4-week stay in Bern and many days hiking/visiting the Oberland. The maps are a bit weak though but it was easy enough to find your way with great signage on the trails. The recommendations were usually pretty good. Used it with Kev Reynolds guide "The Bernese Alps" which had more detail.
