5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cookware
I've been cooking for 50 years and have tried them all. This is the best line of cookware ever. It has all the right features: can be used in the oven, proper balance, excellent conductivity, totally flat bottoms, great non-stick (both inside and outside), the handles stay cool, just the right weight. However, don't believe the claim that you can use metal utensils. They...

1.0 out of 5 stars They DO Scratch, July 12, 2010
This review is from: Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
I really wish that people would not leave comments on cookware that they have had for less than a year. Of course when it's new, it's great. However, please note that the reviewers who have had theirs for more than a year are telling you - it DOES scratch - easily. This is a very expensive set for nonstick. I took very good care of mine because it was so expensive, I always handwashed my cookware and did not abuse it. But it still scratched after 3 months. Fortunately the company that I bought it from stood behind it and took it back, because Swiss Diamond's warranty is awful! Look at some of these reviews and you'll see that people who had to deal with the company are saying that Swiss Diamond keeps claiming "abuse". How convenient and shady of the company. The nonstick was great and it cooked nicely, but when mine scratched, I contacted the company and was given, in an email, "this warranty does not cover stains, discoloration, scratch marks, or dents". HUH??? What DOES it cover then? And once a pan is scratched it's ruined. So since it scratched so easily and the company does not stand behind their warranty, I decided to return the entire set rather than get stuck with a $500 set that will be just like any other nonstick set within a few years. Don't listen to reviewers who have only had theirs a short while - look at the reviewers who have had theirs for awhile or have had to deal with the company. They are all saying the same thing - it DOES scratch, get pits, and stains and the company does not stand behind it.

1.0 out of 5 stars NO Customer Service!, July 30, 2010

I bought a Swiss Diamond Cookware Set about five years ago and some of the pans that I use daily are really starting to show "wear and tear." I contacted their Customer Service Department who seemed VERY interested in helping me decide whether some of the set needed replacement. I was asked to send pictures online and full documentation on when I bought them etc. etc. I responded immediately with what they asked for!

THEN, NO RESPONSE! I even sent an email to the person who originally contacted me...NO REPLY!
This cookware is VERY EXPENSIVE! I do NOT recommend it because NO ONE FROM THE COMPANY answered my questions regarding whether it was SAFE TO USE IN REGARD TO WEAR!

2.0 out of 5 stars Swiss Diamond sautee pan, January 5, 2010

We spent a lot of money ($150) on the 12-inch sautee pan which is advertised as "virtally indestructable". We have been very careful with the pan. We don't use metal utensils, put it in the dishwasher, or use abrasive cleaners or scrubbers. The non-stick coating is pitting, flaking and coming off after only eight months.

The company told me that we could send it back (at our expense) and someone at the company would examine the pan and decide if they would repair the pan, give us a replacement or return the pan as is.

We are planning to return the pan, but we aren't too hopeful.

Having recently read quite a few reviews of other companies' non-stick cookware, it seems that this is a common problem. Caveat emptor!

3.0 out of 5 stars I Love It and I'm Worried, March 6, 2010
This review is from: Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
I've been bragging to everyone about how lovely this 8.5 qt. stock pot is because clean up is a cinch and the non-stick quality is superior. Recently, after cleaning the pan I noticed a scratch that revealed the silver-colored metal underneath the non-stick surface as well as several other aggravated areas on the rim. I couldn't imagine how that happened. After examining its glass lid, I noticed the metal band that goes around the circumference of it (and comes in contact with the pot's rim) joins together and creates an unconnected, albeit close, seam. When I touched it, it felt sharp. Ah-hah! This must be what caused the damage. It seemed logical to me. The representative from Swiss Diamond looked at it and claimed it was caused by a metal utensil being banged against the rim. User error. Needless to say I'm disappointed. I don't recall banging a metal utensil against the rim. It seems obvious to me that, as absurd as it may sound in theory, practically speaking, the pan damaged itself. I sure hope the damage doesn't spread. The other thing I've noticed is some of the non-stick surface on the bottom is pilling. I'm bummed out. I feel angry, but I can't fight "city hall". I just hope this isn't the beginning of further degradation of the pan I love so much.

1.0 out of 5 stars non stick coating life, November 12, 2010
This review is from: Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
I have been using nonstick frying pans for years and the outcome is always the same, they are only non-stick for a few months. At first they are great, nothing sticks, then after a few months the surface begins to dull and I notice small lines forming. Most people would think that the pan is getting scratched from utensils. This is not the case. What is happening is the heat from the burner is causing degradation of the coating. These lines are from the heat not utensils. The expansion coefficients of the metal and the coating are different. That is the metal expands when heated and so does the coating but at different rates which in time coupled with degradation from heat causes the very thin coating to break down and show marks. Keep using this pan and you will notice flaking of the coating. Now you will be getting particles of coating in your food. Your stove burner heats this pan to well above the recommended limit of 500 degrees. If the limit is 500 degrees, what is happening at 400 degrees? I used a non-stick pan and never used a utensil in it. I just shook the pan and poured out the food with out touching the pan with any utensil. I washed the pan very gently with running water and gentile rubbing with my hand. Dried it with a cotton dish towel. The result? The coating lasted the same as any other pan I had.
I have switched to cast iron and stainless. Caution, if you notice any odor coming from a coated pan while preheating on a stove, get rid of it, the coating and other processing chemicals are breaking down and can be toxic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not really diamond, Definitly not DLC, made from same stuff as Teflon with all the same problems., March 14, 2011
By
Shadowgolem (Madison, WI United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
This is presented to seem like it is coated with DLC (read more here [] ). This is actually made from the same stuff that Teflon is made from with some extra carbon (not all carbon forms are hard, like charcoal) thrown in and it scratches and peels and out-gasses at high temps just like Teflon does (Teflon out-gasses around 600F, a typical stove top on high with an empty pan hits this easily). Pans that were made with real ta-C DLC (the stuff they use on Formula 1 engines) would cost a few thousand$ each and would never scratch or wear out.

Treat them with care and they'll be your favorite cookware.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced for what we got, April 16, 2010
This review is from: Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
The claim is that with diamond coating, you can use about anything to turn your food. We found that to not be so. I have to use wooden spatulas and non-stick food flippers on ours. They still got scratched. One pan is burned and beyond hope...the coating was scrubbed off. (We don't use harsh scrubbers either).
The other pots are very good. Advice: careful with a gas range. They singe the bottom of the pans. (maybe we have dirty gas?) I give the set three stars, the price one star...and that stupid frying pan 1/2 star. LOL They ARE better than ingesting Teflon though. (For the record I've never gotten the "perfect fried egg" on anything, even these pans.)Now the pots are scratching too....and I repeat, we don't use metal on this set. Updating this, ALL our frying pans are "sand-blasted" (I have to use PAM on them to cook anything! You shouldn't have to resort to COOKING SPRAY on a supposedly indestructible pan. Everything burns on now...the nonstick coating, "diamond-dusted" or not, is history. Pots are a little scratched but cook/clean up nicely. Still feel I was ripped off...bought the set at Kitchens, Etc. for $490)

5.0 out of 5 stars Swiss Diamond Cookware, January 12, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Swiss Diamond Cast-Aluminum Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set (Kitchen)
I really love these pans. I bought mine about a couple months ago and have used them every day since I received them. They still look brand new. Believe me, I have owned several different kinds of non-stick cookware and none of them compare to these pans. These are very durable and from what I have seen so far, they look like they will be in good shape for a long time to come. I highly recommend these pans if you are looking for something that will last.........
