The listing: The Swiss Family Robinson is the 26 episode Canadian series produced by Glen Warren Productions for CTV and premiered September 1976 on CTV. The stars as listed are correct. Each episode was intended for a 30 minute time slot. The set listed here is a 3 disk set from Image Entertainment and the only one currently in print.

As to which release is better? I do not know, but typically the same material on fewer disks will indicate some compression issues although it's not uncommon for 30 minute series to have 7-9 episodes per disk as would be the case with the Image set. I'd not avoid it for that reason alone as Image typically puts out a good quality product.

The USA Irwin Allen series from 1976 on ABC with Martin Milner, Willie Aames, and Helen Hunt has not yet seen a DVD release.

This "Swiss Family Robinson" tv series is the best ever and there will never be another that compares. Great cast, storylines and beautiful scenery. Throw in family values, drama, adventure, mystery and humor and you have one of the best "Family" shows ever made. Every episode is interesting and exciting. All 5 cast members seem as if they were meant to play those roles and that they really were related. It is a Canadian import, which maybe gives it a unique flavor and is one of the most popular tv shows ever from that country. The jungle scenes were filmed in Canada and the beach scenes in Jamaica, so it is truly island fare. I remember watching this show with my family on Friday nights at 7:00 on channel 12 from Montreal, as we grew up close to the border of Canada. I was in junior high school at the time it premiered back in the Fall of '73 and liked the show from the very first episode. I couldn't wait to see the next one. The only regret is that it only lasted 1 season (for reasons unknown to me) with a 2nd season of reruns before it went into the U.S. market. It brings back great memories from my childhood. When I saw it was on DVD I was really excited and couldn't wait to watch them again, as I hadn't seen them in nearly 30 years. This really is a show for the whole family and a purchase one will not regret!

One of the better film versions of Wyss's novel.
The plots are semi-serialized.
The film quality is good.
Also good cast, and great island location footage.

The switch over to DVD is not good. There is bad camera stuff and it's all so fake looking. This DVD is too old a version. It's not as entertaining.

I love this TV series called Swiss Family Robinson. I think there was a good cast selection. If you want a TV series that teaches some good family values then choose this product. That episode was called Dangerous Feast. The mother had ate some poisonous oysters and got sick. Fortunately the poison was purged and she lived. There are some other episodes that deal with dying in which a mother goat died after giving birth to a kid (baby goat.) I would definitely recommend this three cd set. Every episode is a 22 minute segment. So you can see as many episodes at a time as you have time to view. Choose this TV set and enjoy.

Maybe there are no reviews on this product because the information is confusing. It says the cast members are: Michael Duhig, Heather Graham and Diana LeBlank. If you look in the Internet Movie Database, 7 photographs show: Martin Milner(father),Pat Delaney(mother),Cameron Mitchell(castaway), Helen Hunt(Captain's daughter), Willie Ames(eldest son)and Eric Olson(younger son). During the 1980's I recorded this series from television, and have enjoyed it for many years. Since there is so little information in the advertised product, I am going to purchase the DVD series set, and will get back to you later with my findings! MaryAn

I grew up watching this great show ! It's a great series & worth your money !

All of the reviews are favorable but no one supplies the answer to who makes up the cast. I see it advertised both ways.
