Editorial Reviews

These three concertos for violin and orchestra reflect the manifold influences from neighbouring countries as well as various forms of synthesis between Germanic severity and Latin clarity. Swiss violinist Sibylle Tschopp, along with the Stadtorchester Winterthur under the direction of Nicholas Carthy, performs the works of Paul Juon, Willy Burkhard and Raffaele d'Alessandro. Paul Juon (1872-1940) Sybille Tschopp perfomed the solo part and was accompanied by the Stadtorchester Winterthur under the direction of Nicholas Carthy. The Stadtorchester Winterthur, one of Switzerland's leading symphonic ensembles, performs some 50 to 60 concerts a year. Production information Swiss Violin concertos. Sibylle Tschopp, violin (1998). Musica Helvetica MH CD 114.2. Executive producer for SRI: Christian Strickler.

My only experience of this music is the slow movement of Willy Burkhard's violin concerto. It has the most extraordinary atmosphere.
A calm melody repeats over and over in the bass and above, the violin part just wanders sublimely , seemingly forever and takes you with it.
It is one of those pieces you buy a whole disc for, because once you've heard it you can't do without it.

Sybille Tschopp plays with just the the right kind of simple, open sustained lyricism.I would not need another interpretation.
I heard it in part on Charles Amirkhanian's radio programme on Other Minds Radio where he also quotes part of the theme in a piece of his own
on a great new CD entitled "Scenes from a New music Seance"

I DOHOPE SIBYLLE SCHOPP RECORDING BECOMES AVAILABLE AGAIN SOON
