5.0 out of 5 stars great bag with lots of storage
This bag is wonderful for those who need to carry a lot of things with their laptop. You can tell this has Swiss Army DNA. A security strap holds the computer securely inside and a large pocket holds power cords or accessories. An outside pocket has spots for drives, disks or other needs.
Good to carry things, but not so bulky that you can't carry it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Magnetic Schmagnetic
Note: I'm upping it to FOUR STARS. I think 3 is too low for this product. (I can't change the rating so have had to write it here)

For regular, everyday use, this bag will serve its purpose. It's solidly built and utilitarian. It's also nice and compact, given it's capacity to hold a 15" laptop. The zip-away water bottle holder is a smart and useful touch...

The zip-away water bottle holder is a smart and useful touch. And it even has a nice slot in the back so you can thread it onto the extended handle of the carry-on suitcase you are rolling along at the airport.

Having said that, if you do take this puppy on a business trip, watch out.

The main flap is held down by magnets which take, at best, a tenuous hold. They work fine upside-up. But sling that bag in an overhead baggage compartment and you'd better be careful when you pull it out or that copy of Playboy you bought at the airport may wind up in the lap of the 82 year old grandmother sitting next to you.

These magnets are my main beef. I like them for normal use because they provide quick access, but there are times, especially when traveling, when you need to just KNOW the flap is going to stay secure. I understand that the magnets can only be so strong so that they don't wreak havoc on the hard drives of laptops inside the bag. However, I've never understood why bag makers who use magnets don't provide a basic fastener or clip, out of view, under the flap, that you can optionally secure for those times when the bag may get knocked around a bit. It wouldn't impact style, and for a bag that lists for about a hundred and eighty green ones (of course it's available much cheaper), you'd expect a bit of ingenuity.

If you're not worried about having an absolutely securely fastened main flap and if the 'sensible-shoe' sensibility of it's design don't bug you then go for it. Style-wise, it doesn't really have any of the hipness that you'd expect from something calling itself a messenger bag. It just looks too 'luggagy' for that. For me, it's fine for business meetings where a more conservative look is appropriate, but for weekends at a cool cafe, I'd shoot for something a tad more urban.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great light waight bag for travel!, November 30, 2008
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Messenger Bag (Black) (Personal Computers)
I got this bag for my husband. He travels for work and has long ways to go in the plane. I got him the swiss gear messanger bag becouse it is not wide it is nerrow so it fits under the seat in the plane. It is light waight and has this nice feature with the water bottle holder in the side. It holds all his papers plus his headphones. The only thing he is not so happy about is that it does not stand up itself but this is probably only because his laptop is 17 inch and the recomended size is 15 inch. Great bag and price worthy!

Low price for a well made Computer messenger Bag. Will hold your computer, a 3 inch paper notebook, medium file folders, papers as well as pens and pencils and even you water bottle. The price is amazingly low for such great quality.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great bag overall. Ok for a MBP, January 6, 2009
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Messenger Bag (Black) (Personal Computers)
I got this bag to lug my 15" Mac Book Pro back and forth to work. Unfortunately, the MBP is a little longer than the bag is tall so it extends above the bag a little. Regardless, the "lid" of the bag has no problems covering everythign up and the strap is long enough to keep everything in place.

There is lots of extra room for your cables and a notepad or what ever.

Everything feels solid and well made. I especially like the use of magnets to keep the cover in place, rather than some buckle.

This bag feels like it will last a long time.

I got this bag for my Dell Studio 15.It just fits though the lid does close with the help of the magnetic closure. It is a well made bag with plenty of room for folders, accessories, and other items. I'm very happy with my purchase. I don't know if a 17" laptop will fit so you might try and look at others.

I ordered this because it looked very attracted and well built. I was excited when it arrived and I was eagerly packing with my stuff and then ... then I noticed that the flap the folds over the top of the bag .. .is magnetic. It doesn't zip .. it doesn't clip... it is magnetic. A poor weak magnet. How disappointing. The flap magnets are not strong enough to keep the flap closed. It's not secure. I would have paid another 15 or 20 bucks for a zipper on this to secure my stuff in the bag. how disappointing. I'm really bummed. It's nicely attractive .. and has nice features and isn't clunky like so many bags but the top won't close and stay closed. Bummer. MAJOR bummer. Don't buy this bag if you like your stuff secured. The top is a flap that will flip around and never be closed. I'm seriously bummed. What idiot designed this and left off the zipper????

4.0 out of 5 stars 3 years and going strong, September 10, 2011
This review is from: SwissGear Computer Messenger Bag (Black) (Personal Computers)
I bought this bag a little over 3 years ago. I am a train commuter. It is my summer bag. It's great for my thin laptop and a few files, my phone, and a medium sized book. I over stuffed it and tore the handle, but had it repaired at a local shoe shop. I bought the bad for under $30. I get compliments all of the time. Its a great travel (airport bag)too. It slides easily over my garment bag handle. When I look back on it, I should have bought two. My son has been trying to sneak it out of the house.
