Outside of being a little small on space, it is perfect for carrying a laptop comfortably and pain free. The bag holds the laptop about as close to the body as possible, reducing the pressure on your back. Great for the price.

I bought this backpack before I took a 3 week vacation in Europe. I mainly used this during travel, and not so much once I reached my destination (I stayed in hotels, not like I went backpacking or hiking with it).

For travel, however, I was very pleased with this backpack. It was comfortable on my back despite carrying a decent amount of weight. The laptop-zipper area (closest to your back) carried my normal-weight laptop (no MacBook Air), the smaller sleeve carried my iPad. In the "main" zipper, I carried two ~300-page books, a ~100 page musical score, and a 1.5" black binder (full). The smaller "front" zipper carried the chargers for my iPad and computer, as well as cords and spare adapters and an electrical converter. Finally, the vertical zipper (visible in the main picture) carried my camera and some spare odds and ends. All in all, the straps and the back of the backpack were very nicely padded and the weight was comfortable when the pack was tightened. None of the zipper areas seemed overwhelmed or bulky, despite carrying what would have appeared to strain my previous backpack (Jansport I think).

What gave this backpack bonus points were all the little extras I noticed (and hadn't planned for, so didn't really use) while wearing the pack.
-- The water bottle holders on both sides are large and can tighten. I was able to carry a 1.5L bottle as well as a 0.5L bottle both comfortably and securely.
-- On both of the shoulder straps there are little extras... one side had a loop for sunglasses, much better than the front of your shirt, and the other had a pocket for a phone. I didn't carry my iPhone with me, not sure if it would have fit, but my little European phone fit nicely.
-- On the top of the pack there's a little slot that opens into the "main" zipper area with a logo of headphones... inside the pocket there's a small holder near the top of the zipper that's designed to hold what looks like an iPod or iPhone or any other mp3 player. Presumably you could leave your player protected in your bag and be able to listen to your music. I'm not sure how fashionable this would look, but it does seem practical if you don't want to carry that stuff in your pockets (like I normally do). To be honest, I liked that little slot to carry my passport. Not the most secure place in the world, but it was somewhere where I knew where it was and it wouldn't get bent.

Finally, I think the pack looks fairly good aesthetically. I like the grey with the hints of red. All over the pack seems to be very durably made, with plenty of stitching reinforcement in places that I've had wear & tear issues with other packs. I'd say my use so far of this backpack has only been "light" but it seems to me that SwissGear really knows how to make backpacks. I was unable to find any real downsides.

I picked this up during a daily deal here on Amazon, and I'm glad I did. The normal price is close to $100... I would only recommend that to a "heavy" backpack user, like a college student or a very frequent traveler (with a laptop, of course). More casual users I would say either wait to see if this goes on promotion or check out some of SwissGear's cheaper alternatives... they definitely have brand credit with me now.

This pack is a really good quality pack with a lot of cool features that wasn't expected. I was hesitant to order a pack over the internet -- but couldn't pass up the golden box deal and am glad I didn't... Includes pockets for cell phone, laptop -- well thought out design...
