5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, but sorta SMALL...
This is a neat little filter, and I mean LITTLE! The cone-part hangs down 2.5" into the cup, and is 1.75" around at the top, tapering down to 1.5" at the bottom. Perfect for a nice little cup of tea; an 8oz cup of tea. My tea drinking is done, I guess, in "mug-size" amounts of +20oz, so this is a bit bitty for me. I bought a TF 500, now THAT'S more my size. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite
I was looking to add a second tea strainer to my rotation to help take the load off of my old faithful, a large nylon mesh strainer with the same basic design, but a wider bottom. This one was a disappointment. The tea was noticeably weaker because the leaves didn't have as much room to spread out. Worse, the narrow throat combined with the plastic cross at the bottom...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great filter but a bit hard to clean., January 11, 2007

I bought this for my boyfriend for christmas and he loves it and uses it several times a day. He loves the lid that keeps the water hot while the tea is steeping and it seems to fit in all sizes of our mugs. His only complaint was because the bottom of the filter is flat and made of plastic, it is harder to clean. If it was slanted or had a little bit of filter on the bottom, you could run water through the bottom to get some if the tea sludge out. Instead you have to dig around with your finger, scrape it for a bit and rinse it a lot. All in all though he loves it and I may be getting myself one too.

I was looking to add a second tea strainer to my rotation to help take the load off of my old faithful, a large nylon mesh strainer with the same basic design, but a wider bottom. This one was a disappointment. The tea was noticeably weaker because the leaves didn't have as much room to spread out. Worse, the narrow throat combined with the plastic cross at the bottom made this really tedious to clean out. I couldn't find a cleaning tool that fit inside.

Eventually, the dishwasher jet flipped this upside down, causing the plastic bottom to hit the heating element during the drying cycle and melt. I wasn't all that sad to see it go. Look for something with a wider bottom for better flavor and easier cleaning.

Works very well, easy to clean, lid makes handy drip tray. Have given several as gifts. Would be perfect if the all parts that came into contact with hot water/tea were metal, instead of some plastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic tea strainer!, May 11, 2007
This review is from: Swissgold TF 300 Tea Filter (Kitchen)
As an avid tea drinker, I'm always looking for tea strainers that won't "leak" leaves into the cup. With the exception of a fine green tea that I drink, this tea filter strains the tea leaves very well. It is compact, lightweight and very easy to store and clean. This is an absolute must for tea fanatics!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple, Elegant and Functional Tea Infuser, January 23, 2007
This review is from: Swissgold TF 300 Tea Filter (Kitchen)
I have tried all manner of tea infusers over the years from simple balls and spoons to elaborate gadgets with filters and valves. The SwissGold has them all beat in my opinion. I bought this after seeing a co-worker with one. OK, what I like about it. It looks really cool in my clear glass mug. It has plenty of space for the tea leaves to circulate in the water. The mesh is very fine so that only a tiny amount of tea particles get into the brew. The flange and lid keep the aroma sealed in the cup when the tea is steeping. When cleaning it out the wet tea leaves slide out relatively easily with a couple of taps due to the tapered shape. The few remaining tea leaves dry out quickly on the mesh and then can be dislodged with a flick of the finger. The lid is also useful as a drip tray. Very well designed. I gave one to a co-worker who also loves it and thinks it makes her look like a tea snob!

5.0 out of 5 stars Does its job very well, June 20, 2007
This review is from: Swissgold TF 300 Tea Filter (Kitchen)
I finally dropped some serious money (9.99) on this permanent filter because i was sick of those stupid metal balls that would eventually need to be thrown away and it looked like a solid buy with all the reviews and I am definitely happy with it. It is easy to clean, catches all major sediment, and has a neat little cover which doubles as a drip catcher after it's done.

I was initially concerned because i wasn't sure if it would fit some of my larger mugs (MiGo 16oz. Senja¿ Desktop) but it worked like a champ.

I imagine it will stain and fade more with time, but as long as it keeps working i couldn't care less.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great tool for tea drinkers, May 12, 2007

This is a great teastrainer. I use it both for single cups of tea and for brewing a full pot. I've had many tea strainers and this one outperforms them all. The best part is that it does not add an unpleasant taste to the tea, like my previous tea strainers did. I highly recommend this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Small - buy the bigger one, December 7, 2009

I bought TF300 after buying and loving my TF500. Please refer to the picture I uploaded for a comparison of the two filters.

TF300 is smaller than the little cup you see in the washroom on an airplane (economy class, that is to say...) Hence, it does not allow tea leaves to expand sufficiently. More importantly, its bottom is completely made of plastic, unlike TF500 which has a layer of filter. This further restricts the diffusion of tea into the water. TF500 is slightly bigger than the small paper/plastic cups (for soda, etc) that you can get in supermarkets. It fits most of my mugs perfectly though it touches the bottom of one of them. Bottom line is: to make a perfect cup of tea, buy TF500 with a large mug.

I purchased this along with the green Tovolo In-Mug Tea Infuser when I misplaced my old nylon cup infuser. I had bought the nylon infuser years ago from a kitchen shop where I also purchased loose herbal tea blends. This infuser works even better than the nylon. Very little sediment came through! I really wanted to like the Tovolo one since it was so cute, colorful and cheap but decided to get the swiss gold too to be safe. This was the only useful one. It is great for about 12 ounces of tea or less. If the top of the cup is larger than 3 inches you might want to get the TF 500. The discriptions on the items helped me to decide between the two. Those reviewers who downgraded this one as being too small must be using large coffee or cocoa mugs. This is for a tea mug! The top is only a little over 3 1/2 inches wide. The bottom is narrower. It is about 2 1/2 inches from the bottom to the bottom of the plastic top, 3 1/2 total. I really like the lid to help infuse the tea better and to use as a tray for the infuser afterwards. Enjoy! It is very pleasant to use.
