Excellent Sounding Mic,

I see some negative reviews here because the mic does not work with Skype. This is because inputing a mic into the iPod Touch headphone jack disables the speaker. I have to say it's not the mic fault, but rather the user who didn't research what the mic does. It is only for inputting audio into recording aps. If you want to use it as a phone rig, then you have to look at an adapter or a mic/headphone combo since you will lose the speaker output on the ipod. That said, I would like to say that this is an excellent mic. I'm am an old recording buff and have had tons of mics. I'm am very, very pleased with the audio this mic records. It sounds as clear and natural as condenser mics costing four or five times as much. I was really very surprised by its recording capabilities - as I mainly bought it to jot down little audio notes to myself, not thinking I'd be getting really nice fidelity along the way. The makers say they auditioned a bunch on condenser mic before settling on the one in the Thumbtack and I believe it. When used close to the speaker, it provides amazing sound for the price. Bravo guys for making such a cool-looking, good-sounding mic.

I bought this one and also the RapCap (also sold at Amazon) and was trying both out. They actually could make a nice combination of two small mics to carry for use with an iPod or iPhone. I have an iPod touch, and compared to something like the Mikey, these DO work and work well. However, this thumbtack one records as a very low level of sensitivity. It likely would work best for recording memos to yourself. If you want to record a talk by someone else and capture more sound in the room, the RapCap has a much greater sensitivity level (which matters a lot since I see no way on the iPod Touch itself to adjust sensitivity levels). So, the RapCap seems better for many uses, but this thumbtack one would be good for personal voice memos.

Thats a good idea below to try but I do not believe it advertises that it will work for that. This Mic is really easy to use, literally plug it in and it works! I believe it will also work with the iPhone 3G if you download the free iTalk app.
If you at all need a mic and want something that works well and is cool, this is it!

Nice idea, but terrible construction. I got one recording of decent quality from it, but it fell apart as soon as I tried to disconnect it from my ipod.

I use this mic in a classroom setting and have had no problems with it. It's a traditional recorder, so don't expect it to work on Skype. And if you're going to be in a noisy room, guess what? You're going to record noise. The sound quality is great and because it's small, you'll hardly even notice it on your ipod at all. Totally worth it.

I worked fine. But, now I have two pieces. When I went to remove it from my iPod it came apart in two pieces. Now it is junk.

Easy to use, great sound quality, flat frequency response. I use this mic for acoustic measurements with the first generation iPhone (the only one to offer a flat frequency response thru its mic-input as all later models have a low pass filter)

The Switcheasy Thumb Tacks Mic works like a charm. It's tiny, which is to say that six would fit into that little pocket on the right side of your jeans, and it works as well as the Mic on an IPhone. This simple device renders your IPod Touch Skype compatible, allows you to use Shazam, etc.
It's great, it's extremely portable and it's cheap as dirt. One comment below claimed it cuts off the sound so it's useless for ape calls. Put the IPod on speaker Think before you criticize. Another claims it fell apart after one use. WHAT could have fallen apart? To me it looks indestructible. Folks? You have an IPod Touch? Buy this thing. Hey I assume it works with IPads too. Does it?

I love this product! It works great with the "voice memo" function on the 3.0 version of the ipod touch. It even adds that application to the 4th generation ipod nano when plugged in. I did find you must have the device plugged in before launching the voice memo app, or it wouldn't record. I also worry about losing it because it is so small and doesn't come with a case.
