  • Features enhanced readability through improved word usage, sentence structure, concise descriptions, real-world examples, and graphical presentations
  • Written by well-respected CCNA instructor who brings real classroom experience to material

Switching Basics and Intermediate Routing CCNA 3 Companion Guide is the official supplemental textbook for the CCNA 3 course of the Cisco Networking Academy Program. Completely revised from the previous edition with new examples and explanations, this textbook includes original material developed by the author, yet it fully aligns with the CCNA 3 curriculum. Written by an experienced instructor and author who presents material in a comprehensive manner--using his own voice and examples--this new edition augments student understanding of course material. The new edition incorporates improved features to aid instructors and enhance student comprehension. For example, chapters align with course modules in both name and number, and chapter objectives are stated as questions to encourage students to think about and find answers as they read chapters. End-of-chapter questions and summaries align with chapter objectives to emphasize key topics, while key terms are listed in each chapter opener in the order of occurrence to alert students to upcoming vocabulary words. In addition, new features include "How To" quick references for step-by-step tasks; real-world examples and all-new illustrations; concise explanations with a focus on word usage and sentence structure for improved readability; and correlations to the CCNA exam in Chapter Objectives and Check Your Understanding questions.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Portable, Better Written Alternative to the Online Material, March 21, 2007
This review is from: Switching Basics and Intermediate Routing CCNA 3 Companion Guide (Cisco Networking Academy) (Hardcover)
Note the words 'Companion Guide' in the title of this book. This book is intended to supplement the online information for version v3.1.1 of the CCNA # exam. It is a full textbook in its own right, which covers the same basic material as covered by the online curriculum. This has three real advantages:

First, the simple fact that the same material is covered by a different author means that he will use different words, different ideas, different examples to explain the same points. Often this difference means the real difference in understanding the material.

Second, while this book is being written by a Cisco contract employee, he doesn't have to go through the full approval cycle that the online folk did. Therefore the writing doesn't have to be as bland and dull. This too helps in the understanding.

Third, you can take it with you, on a plane, to bed, the bathroom, where ever you want to read and don't have online access. ==Finally, this covers the same material as online in the same order, with the same chapter headings, etc. All in all, an excellent adjunct to the online material.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please Do Not Buy, March 22, 2007
This review is from: Switching Basics and Intermediate Routing CCNA 3 Companion Guide (Cisco Networking Academy) (Hardcover)
If you are a CCNA student and plan on using this as your single source for tests you will be greatly dissapointed. I have read both this book and the old version since I have taken the CCNA course twice now. This book contains only about 80% of the test material... The older version is much better and contains twice as much information. Anyone who is serious about taking the ICND or CCNA Exam should NOT rely on this book... Please take it from someone who knows. This book was obviously thrown together too quickly, there is quite a few gramatical errors and missing information. Two Thumbs Down "If it aint broke don't fix it" stick with the old edition.
