lots of pictures and text, but hard to sort through all the information
on May 23, 2011
the DK eyewitness guide books are eye-catching and have a lot of text, but they also have a major flaw which is that they don't prioritize the listings of sights. they give all of their writeups equal space and weight, even to the least-important sights, so it's very difficult to determine what you should actually go see. the switzerland book has good info on cities such as zurich, but the information is pretty scarce for exploring the alps region. the info on jungfraujoch, "the top of europe" and one of the highlights of the swiss alps, is minimal and barely adequate, and there isn't much info on the highlights of the towns in that area such as interlaken, grindelwald, and lauterbrunnen, although there's a good amount of into on the two lakes in that region. wish i had gotten a different book.
