This review is from: The Sword of Angels (Hardcover)
I have to admit that this series is something you are happy to have been a part. This last installment does have by far the best piece of writing in the series. The characters are well developed and the ending is a twist that is welcome. I must honestly say that I did not expect the ending and for this I was appreciative. Some of the characters may be a bit sallow but I would have to say that I am glad that I read this series and would do so in a heartbeat.
RECOMMENDATION: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

One of the books,
This review is from: The Sword of Angels (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading all the books by John Marco, in the series of Tyrants and King, and now the three books in this series, I have concluded that, for me, John Marco is one of the best writers in this genre (I am looking forward to reading the books of George R. R. Martin when he finishes his series).
I was amazed by the way John Marco can create a world and a story, all his books have a story that is so interesting that you have to keep reading it until you finish it, its a amazing how he handles that many characters and doesn't lose you in the way, how he shows you so many places, each different from the rest, with their own rules and problems. He does in one book what a lot of writers do in three or more, the story is always advancing and a lot happens in each book, so you are never bored. If I could give more stars to this book i would(and to all his books, because I like almost all of them the same), I highly recomend all of John Marco`s books to everybody, no only science fiction / fantasy readers, you will enjoy them very much

A book worthy of being in your collection.,

This review is from: The Sword of Angels (Hardcover)
The Sword of Angels is the third book in the Eyes of God trilogy. It is a well written book and never has failed to keep me intrested. John Marco puts alot of time and effort into each character he creates. He adds so much depth to the characters in all three of his books in the Eyes of God trilogy, that you can't but help to feel sad when something dramatic happens to one of the characters. The Sword of Angels is a great book and is worth checking out. If you like Authors such as Robert Jordan and George R.R. Martin I would suggest that you pick up John Marcos The Sword of Angles and his first two books in his trilogy.

An Incredible Fantasy Novel!,

This review is from: The Sword of Angels (Hardcover)
What a fantastic series John Marco has written! I actually read The Eyes of God and The Devil's Armor over again, just so I could read this amazing series together. The Sword of Angels is a stunning conclusion to a phenomenal journey, which will have you turning pages as fast as you can read them. This is one book you won't be able to put down, and definitely one book you don't want to miss reading!

The Sword of Angels is the conclusion to the series; however, the seamless flow between the books makes them a compelling and interesting saga in a fantasy world which is not to be missed. Furthermore, it's for those who want more out of fantasy writing than cliches such as dragons and pointy hats, as you'll find neither. I will not summarize the plot; this book and the rest of the series deserve better than a simple overview. These books are about what makes us who we are.
John Marco's imagination and style have painted a wonderful world of characters to which we all can relate. Some of these people are granted an Akari which empowers them with a magic to overcome, a gift which is either a blessing or a curse which the characters much each accept in their own way. The characters never lose their human aspects, such as fallibility, lending a sense of familiarity and attachment to the characters. Regardless of if they have an Akari, the human struggle can be seen in all of the characters as some long for power, other long for love, wisdom, or peace. The series portray more than a simple fantasy blessed by John's unbounded imagination. A document of the psychology behind the human condition, this saga will remind one in a whimsical way of the desires and fears which makes us all inevitably human.

Wow! Mr. Marco is quite the storyteller. He's up there with Robin Hobb in character narrative, and provides an engaging plot that ends in a rousing finale. It is a long journey, so readers make sure your in for the long haul. Will check out Tyrants and Kings trilogy at some future point. Happy, blissful reading on this one!! Thanks Mr. Marco. Please write more! Peace, Donald

Not the most graceful ending of a series...,
By Meghan "Meggy" (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Sword of Angels (Mass Market Paperback)
Well, this series started off 'okay' and in my opinion ended just about the same way. The ending felt rushed. It seemed as if the author was just trying to hurry along the end of the novel by killing off characters left and right without rhyme or reason (or at least no GOOD reason). Throughout the series I would try to picture the characters and felt that it was difficult to get a true feel of how they would look. The action scenes were done fairly well and were somewhat exciting, but was all very telegraphed as well. You could see what was coming a thousand miles away. Not the most spectacular series I've ever read. Though there were some somewhat interesting characters it was all very cliche.
***spoiler alert*** The ending was very disappointing to me... Lukien should have just freaking died already. And honestly, I'm glad to move onto a much better series and author, maybe Robin Hobb.

This was the weakest of the trilogy in my opinion. It was sooooo drawn out and certainly didnt need to be almost a thousand pages. This entire trilogy really was a good series just was overly boring at times due to unnecessary length added to the books.

With his 'Inhumans' trilogy, John Marco has secured his place among the masters of the craft. With this stunning conclusion, he gives us intricately detailed accounts of the many peoples affected by a world at war. While seemingly small in comparison to the overall plot, Mr. Marco masterfully relates to us the stories of the people that populate this world. Through meticulously handled weaving of dialogue, narrative and action, these stories and overall plot move along at an exciting pace, guaranteed to keep you glued to the pages until the early hours of the morning.
He also does a superb job of describing the rich and vibrant cultures that inhabit the world, with the abilities of a master, transporting his readers into this wonderfully imaginative world. If you are new to the series then I highly recommend picking up the first book, The Eyes of God. You'll thank yourself later. If you've already been following the accounts of John Marco's characters then pick this book up, settle into a comfy chair and enjoy the ride. I'd just like to personally thank John Marco for giving me, and everyone else, the opportunity to experience this grand journey. |
