Book Description

June 30, 2008
Professor Jack Goodrich has a prestigious job in Cairo and a happy family life with his wife and ten-year-old daughter. When he's offered the chance to authenticate potentially priceless artefacts, including a sword, he thinks his dreams have come true. But as soon as they are in his possession, the nightmare begins with the death of his wife and daughter. The sword appears to be the property of the descendent of the Prophet Mohammed, and the people who want it will do anything to get it. Once the descendent has it he will declare jihad on all non-Muslims. Only a strange, beautiful woman known as Scheherazade can help him. Together they must decide what to do with the sword and try to prevent the destruction of the world as we know it.

3.0 out of 5 stars YIELDING THE SWORD OF PROPHESY, July 31, 2008

This review is from: SWORD, THE (Hardcover)
Daniel Easterman [Dennis MacEoin] is an Islamic studies academic (and a former Bahaist) who has always published novels with a realistic grasp of international power games. And real people getting caught in the gears of said games. When it comes to near East political yarns, there is simply no contest: Easterman delivers.

As with other novels, THE SWORD is page turner with each crisis resulting in an even higher level of urgency. The balance of the world seems to hang on every turn the hero takes and every bullet he fires. The main problem with Easterman's novels (ever since the The Seventh Sanctuary), is the writer's eagerness to kill off main characters or their loved ones. Sometimes these deaths serve as character motivation. Sometimes they are just pointless.

Not for light reading but recommended.
