Book Description

Medieval Murderers Group 2 September 1, 2007
From its first arrival in Britain with the Norman forces of William the Conqueror, violence and revenge are the cursed sword's constant companions. From an election scandal in 13th-century Venice to the battlefield of Poitiers in 1356, the sword of shame brings bad luck and disgrace to all who possess it in this compelling collection of five interlocking mysteries.

2.0 out of 5 stars Should have been better, January 3, 2007
The Medieval Murderers are a group (originally 4 now grown to 6) of historical crime writers who are entirely too busy! Each book traces the history of a "cursed" object through the centuries with a short story. Michael Jecks does early 14th century West Country, Susanna Gregory does 14th century Cambridge, etc. It's a nice idea--I like all the authors and had high hopes--but it hasn't worked so far. The stories are sketchy and not well-connected, and the 2000-era "shocker" ending -- aren't. Medieval Murderers seem to be a marketing device. That's ok, but I can't imagine that anyone not already a fan of one of the members will be attracted by reading these books. For what it's worth, the first volume (The Tainted Relic) is marginally better than The Sword of Shame, 3-star maybe. It is to be hoped that in Volume 3 the Murderers will get their act together. They are all capable of fine work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where did that blade come from?, June 27, 2009

This review is from: Sword of Shame (Medieval Murderers Group 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
A thoroughly enjoyable romp across about 700 years of history with the superior storytelling of Michel Jecks and company. The settings are interesting and the major characters are old friends from the five authors represented.

I haven't finished it yet, but one can see that this is a grand follow up to the first in the series ("The Tainted Relic"). Very much worth investigating! See the Latin phrase on the blade with the English transliteration.
