5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete set
I have read the complete set of 5 books. They were riviting to say the least, they will keep you on the edge of your seat, the unexpected occurs at every turn - I could not have imagined the problems that Richard Cypher (Rahl) and Kahlem Amnell would get in and out of. Totally different from any other fantasies I've read

3.0 out of 5 stars Inconsistent
Wizard's First Rule is one of the best books I have ever read. Unfortunately, the quality of its sucessors seems to decrease with each new book.

Wizard's First Rule introduced us to Richard, a forest guide-turned savior. Richard's struggle to maintain his identity while everything around him turned to Chaos was endearing. Throw in the wise, benevolent grandfather, an...

5.0 out of 5 stars Tolkien Finally Has Competition, May 11, 2000
This review is from: The Sword of Truth Gift Set, Books 1-5 (Hardcover)
These series of books show the brilliant and creative imagination of Mr. Goodkind. I found myself unable to place the book down. His intriguing and descriptive usage of words, pull you in from the first to the last page.

These books display a mixture of fantasy, mystery, and suspense. Towards the end of any of these five books, you think you have finally solved the puzzle, when out of no where, Goodkind adds another detail and the puzzle--you realize--is now missing pieces. Once again, you must put your mind to the test and rearrange the characters, conditions, and settings. At times, these books are very contradicting!

Throughout the series, Kahlan Amnell, Richard Cypher(Rahl)--a once quiet and modest woodsman, and Zedd--the last of great wizards--stand together to battle evil and protect the innocent throughout the lands of Westland, the Midlands, and D'Hara. During their journey's, Richard discovers many dark secrets of his past and is named the Seeker.

The Seeker carries the Sword of Truth--now you understand where the series' title comes from--and searches in the name of truth. Richard travels to D'Hara and the People's Palace primarily to stop Darken Rahl and to destroy the boxes of Orden. In each of the series, things turn out as hoped, but other things fail. At the end of every book, you want to run to the library and pick up the sequel in order to find out what happens. Only to your dismay, after reading all the five released books, more incidents happen you must wait patiently for Mr. Goodkind to write the next book in the series!

Though some argue that Mr. Goodkind's books tend to be on the graphic side, I tend to think that because they are graphic, it means Mr. Goodkind has been able to place words in such a way, we are able to picture what he is writing. Only talented writers such J.R.R. Tolkien and Terry Goodkind are able to make the words flow with such intensity.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sword Of Truth Books Review, December 5, 1999

I have read the 5 books that are avaiable at the moment And I have to say that when I read 1st title (Wizard's First Rule) and Finished it in the middle of the night I could not wait till morning so that I can go and Buy the reast of the titles to continue the saga. I was truly amazed with the authors way of stimulating a full range of the emotions. Mostly how he can make the story go from sad to miserable and then make it more depresing still, gets the reader glued to the books so that he or she can find out how the caracters in the story can get out of the strive they are in; and then keep the reader like my selfe hanging for the next book to be published so that i can get my hends on it, read it and maybe relax with the knowledge that the caracters (one can't help, but to fall in love with) conquer their troubles and get to life their lifes the way they hope to. Nowing the Author it will be a whille. Truelly Looking Forward to the book 6. whenever that may be.

I recomend these books to any true fantasy lover and garenty thay will love it as much as I did.

( Sorry for any speling errors but English is New To me. )

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Series!, January 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Sword of Truth Gift Set, Books 1-5 (Hardcover)
I've been a fan of fantasy for many years, but the Sword of Truth series so far surpasses any other I've read. Goodkind's talent for portraying characters in such a way that you feel you know them and their development through the plot leaves nothing wanting in the series (other than the next book that is)! And by the way, if you go to TOR's website you can see that the next book is due to come out in August, I can't wait! I highly reccomend this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this series!, January 6, 2000

Yeah, so I'm sitting here reading all these reviews about the various books, and they've inspired me to give my own opinion. I have to say that after I read Wizard's First Rule, I called it my favourite book -- then I read the rest of the series, and I can't decide on a favourite! The series is just that: a series, you can't pick up, for example, Blood of the Fold and expect to understand it all; the story just doesn't work right unless the whole thing is read. Also, I've been reading these comments about not liking breif plotlines that are picked up and dropped, but this really doesn't bother me. I find that it makes the story more realistic; after all, people often lost contact with people from their past, especially when they take up new causes, such as, oh, I dunno, suddenly becoming ruler of a faraway land. So, as I said before, I am in love with this series, and I look forward to reading more books continuing this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terry Goodkind isn't Robert Jordan, he's better, October 14, 2002
By
This review is from: The Sword of Truth Gift Set, Books 1-5 (Hardcover)
I must say, despite the comparisons between Goodkind and Jordan, I much prefer Goodkind. His characters are much more enjoyable to read about and it is obvious he has put a lot of time and effort into the series. There has not been a book of his yet that I have not read multiple times and absolutely loved everytime I read it.
Not the case with Jordan. There is no comparison between the two and I do not feel that Goodkind has taken any of Jordan's ideas. Better to say his inspiration came from the undoubted king of epic fantasy, J.R.R. Tolkien. If you are looking for a fabulous read and a series that will keep you riveted and coming back for more then I highly recommend Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth. There are some flaws but the virtues greatly outweigh these.

4.0 out of 5 stars sword of truth, January 13, 2000

I just read the sword of truth series and i must say that i have thouroughly (?) enjoyed it. I do recommend all my friends, who enjoy reading fantasy, to read it. Wat more would you want? the books are easy to read while they have a complex storyline. also you can't just go and read one book out of the series and just stop. you won't understand what it's all about. and Goodkind just makes you curious of how the end will be. i think it's pretty good how the author has chosen Richard as a main character and how he lets him discover the Midlands and D'Hara. he's like an infant in that world and so are we. together with him we discover those places and people. i think you could say Goodkind (Kahlan) takes us (Richard) into this crazy world of his and shares it with us. and the way he does that is just sublime. i especially like how he has chosen the Seeker, which is an old pagan legend, as a main woven into the storyline in the first book. i'm desperately waiting for the 6th book. so mr Goodkind, if you read this: could you be so nice to all your loyal fans and hurry up?

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you LOVE fantasy?, April 13, 2000
By
This review is from: The Sword of Truth Gift Set, Books 1-5 (Hardcover)
In 1994, Terry Goodkind wrote a smash hit fantasy... "The Wizard's First Rule" ... that is by far the best book that I have ever read. It is a heart warming tale about a nobody trailguide from a small town who is used to small things and a woman who is more tan a queen. When their paths cross, the fireworks start. The trail guide(Richard) jouneys to a faraway land in a magical quest to halt the subjegation of the entire world. The next four books are no less spellbinding thatn the first. Richard discovers that he is a wizard and has a power that none have been born with in over three thousand years. He then goes against a foe that will surely destroy the world of the living, the Keeper of the Underworld. Richard then fights his way through an evil emperor, a plauge started by magis and the chimes of death, all while conquering the world and marrying his one true love! This sieries is by far, in my opinion, the best ever written in all time. A riviting quest, multiple sub-quests, and many different characters make this sieries one that you have to read. A must buy for anyone who loves magic, adventure and never ending excitement!

5.0 out of 5 stars what was that other guy thinking?, January 5, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Sword of Truth Gift Set, Books 1-5 (Hardcover)
Even though i do not own this "gift set" i have read all five in the Sword of Truth series and i would like to say that i believe all of them to be superb novels with extraordinary imagination and beautiful details and imagery. Although i will have to say the best by far is The Wizard's First Rule, the others follow the story nicely and all in all the books are excellent heart-pounding literature that pulls you in to the story and makes you feel as if you are actually there. So i ask of the guy who wrote the review i read, "What was that guy thinking?"

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic is Real, January 12, 2000
This review is from: The Sword of Truth Gift Set, Books 1-5 (Hardcover)
In the stories of "The sword of Truth" series, Goodkind has created a world where magic is real. In this place, sensations are balistic and situations are dynamic; and you become part of them. The heros are more powerful and sympathetic than any friend you have ever known. The villians are more lethal than the monsters of unshakable nightmares. Armed with special magic, Richard, Kahlan, Zedd and Adie use their gifts to battle sorcerous foes; specters who can inflict devistation and destruction at ease. The dangers are unlike anything our world can produce, and even magic is of little use to save the innocent. Victory is possible only because the defenders are more clever than their enemies, and are devoted to love and life.
