This "Swordfish" - not a lame Travolta flick,

This review is from: Swordfish (Hardcover)
An incredibly engrossing true story featuring a Cuban veteran of the Bay of Pigs/Isle of Pines prison going undercover while working for a bumbling DEA bureaucracy. The piles of laundered cash, betrayals and bureaucratic backstabbing amidst dangerous consequences are all too real. McClintock's detailed account of a DEA operation involving Coke smuggling Colombians as the 80's drugwar spiraled out of control is a really great book. Author of Indecent Exposure, McClintock uses Roberto Darias own notes and taperecordings to unveil a complex world of deceit in pursuit of justice that finds only more layers of deceit. I recently reread this book after hearing of the film "swordfish" and realized that it would be hard to breakdown into a 90 min. Hollywood treatment. I was hoping the blockbuster film would not do damage to the bitter realization's re: the Government, Drug Wars, and Money but alas I understand Travolta's latest is totally unrelated...

Suspenseful, Engrossing, Investigative Reporting,
By "p_rogers47" (Miami) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Swordfish (Hardcover)
This book captures the deceptions, turf wars and incompetency of a massive government anti-drug mission dubbed Operation Swordfish. With incredible details and the tone of a thriller, the book uncovers the federal government's efforts to take down the top fish in the Colombian narcotics trade and the internecine, ruinous betrayals. It was a breathless read, like a thriller spy novel only real. McClintick is one of the nation's top investigative reporters and he burrows so far into Operation Swordfish that you'll think he was present for the entire mission.
