Good Introduction to Oakenfold, October 30, 2001

This review is from: Swordfish (Audio CD)
I am new to the whole electronic music scene. On a whim I decided to purchase this cd and I must say it has become a pleasant surprise, and a excellent use of the money it cost. It has a killer beat throughout the cd, and the color and theme of the cd is outstanding. It's the kind of music that's good if you are lounging around at home w/ some friends or out for a drive through the city at night. Lower the windows and drive towards the shimmering lights, and let Oakie take you on a journey for over an hour. PEACE

A step in the right direction..., June 11, 2001
This review is from: Swordfish (Audio CD)
Once again, Paul Oakenfold amazes us again with his musical creativity and genius. Although his last album (Perfecto Presents Another World) has not been one of his better works, this soundtrack compiled for the new Swordfish movie would have to be one of his best. These new tracks are breaking new barriers in electronica by combining jazz, funk, trance, and beats to create a new sound with a slick trip-hop twist. His work with Chris Youngman is nothing short of phenomenal. This is definitely a step in the right direction.

See the movie. If you like it, buy the CD., April 10, 2004

Go rent the movie first if you are expecting this to be Tranceport. This isn't Tranceport. I loved Tranceport, but this is meant to be a totally different style. It is hip-hop influenced. It's not trance. "The Word" is probably the best trance-like track on the album. I've played this album a lot - I really like it. The sound mixing and quality is good - you can play this disc very loud in the car, and it is very clear. It's kind of hard to explain, but some electronic records sound flat - this one doesn't - there is depth to the sound on every track. In addition, the songs all have some personality to them. They hold up on their own, rather than blending together where you can't tell what song is what. Thumbs up. Some tracks have some vulgarity, so keep that in mind.
