5.0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Oakenfold
I am new to the whole electronic music scene. On a whim I decided to purchase this cd and I must say it has become a pleasant surprise, and a excellent use of the money it cost. 3.0 out of 5 stars Whatever happened to Oakenfold?
Paul Oakenfold is one of the best DJs in the world, no question. This is however not even close to the best soundtrack in the world. In fact, I never bought it. I kept the original mixes of a couple of the tracks on morpheus. If you really like Oakenfold or wish to hear him at his best, purchase another CD he released independently. He has released some great CDs...

It has a killer beat throughout the cd, and the color and theme of the cd is outstanding. It's the kind of music that's good if you are lounging around at home w/ some friends or out for a drive through the city at night. Lower the windows and drive towards the shimmering lights, and let Oakie take you on a journey for over an hour. PEACE

5.0 out of 5 stars A step in the right direction..., June 11, 2001
This review is from: Swordfish (Audio CD)
Once again, Paul Oakenfold amazes us again with his musical creativity and genius. Although his last album (Perfecto Presents Another World) has not been one of his better works, this soundtrack compiled for the new Swordfish movie would have to be one of his best. These new tracks are breaking new barriers in electronica by combining jazz, funk, trance, and beats to create a new sound with a slick trip-hop twist. His work with Chris Youngman is nothing short of phenomenal. This is definitely a step in the right direction.

5.0 out of 5 stars See the movie. If you like it, buy the CD., April 10, 2004
This review is from: Swordfish (Audio CD)
Go rent the movie first if you are expecting this to be Tranceport.

This isn't Tranceport. I loved Tranceport, but this is meant to be a totally different style. It is hip-hop influenced. It's not trance. "The Word" is probably the best trance-like track on the album.

I've played this album a lot - I really like it. The sound mixing and quality is good - you can play this disc very loud in the car, and it is very clear. It's kind of hard to explain, but some electronic records sound flat - this one doesn't - there is depth to the sound on every track. In addition, the songs all have some personality to them. They hold up on their own, rather than blending together where you can't tell what song is what.

Thumbs up. Some tracks have some vulgarity, so keep that in mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oakie for Newbies, January 15, 2002

Bottom line, you can call Oakenfold a sellout or whatever, his critics have said worse. Oakenfold has done more for club, specifically trance, than any other DJ out there, there's a reason this guy gets 15k a night-- he is good, bottom line. This album is a great intro to oakenfold, i have a friend who is new to this kind of music, picked it up, loved it, and bought oakenfolds ibiza w/in a week--not the best choice, imho, but its nice to see someone else get into it. As for the album, Dark Machine, New Born, and N.E.R.D.'s songs are stand-outs, also huge kudos for including one of the best new things to happen in a while-- Lemon Jelly on track 8. Some of his original pieces fall a little flat, look, i couldnt stand "speed"... but some of the others invoke that great euro-trash jet-set feel you get while watching travolta work those clubs-- it just sounds
"cool"

1.0 out of 5 stars A Horrible Soundtrack to Accompany an Equally Horrible Movie, July 19, 2007

Just when I thought Paul Oakenfold's dramatic fall from DJ grace had finally reached the bottom, he does the soundtrack for Swordfish. The fall continues.

This beauty comes complete with several lines from the movie and no mixing. As the album progresses, and I thought it couldn't possible get any worse, his own track "Speed" comes on with lots of great Formula-1 racing car sound FX's (sigh).

1/5 stars for this mockery of electronica.

When you hear John Travolta's voice at the beginning of this album, you know it can't be any worse. This has to be the worst album of the year.
