5.0 out of 5 stars COLLECTING BRITISH MILITARY SWORDS, March 12, 1998

THE BIBLE OF COLLECTING BRITISH MILITARY SWORDS. IF YOU WANT TO IDENTIFY ANY TYPE OF SWORD USED BY THE ARMY, THIS IS AN INVALUABLE REFERENCE. IT WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH DATE OF USAGE, MANUFACTURER, MILITARY UNIT THAT CARRIED THE WEAPON AND SPECIFICATIONS OF LENGTH, WEIGHT AND TYPE OF SCABBARD, INCLUDING SOME INTERESTING STORIES ABOUT THE CONTRACTS NEGOTIATED TO PURCHASE THEM, INCLUDING TESTING PROCEDURES. KEEP IN MIND THAT THE AUTHOR IDENTIFIES PIECES ILLUSTRATED THAT HE HAS AND THAT EVERY PATTERN DESCRIBED CAN HAVE MULTIPLE MANUFACTURERS. IF YOU WISH TO COLLECT SWORDS OF THE BRITISH NAVY, LOOK FOR SWORDS FOR THE SEA SERVICE BY ANNIS AND MAY. THE REVISED EDITION OF 1996 IS BETTER THAN THE FIRST EDITION AND SHOULD BE PREFERRED. FOR FURTHER DETAILS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL JOHN PISCOPO AT JPISC98357@AOL.COM

5.0 out of 5 stars Swords of the British Army, by Brian Robson, August 17, 2000

This review is from: Swords of the British Army: The Regulation Patterns, 1788-1914 (Hardcover)
An outstanding book for the serious scholar or collector, with a good number of photos and descriptions of every issue sword type. The text follows the history of design, selection, testing, issuance, and politics of the sword in the British army. Possibly too detailed for the person with just a casual interest. Highly recommended for anyone with an interest in this field.
