4.0 out of 5 stars For die-hard Wilde and O'Hara fans, August 22, 2006
This review is from: At Sword's Point [VHS] (VHS Tape)
We were in our Cornel Wilde phase when we bought this video. And, granted, Wilde is a sumptuous feast for the eyes in the film. A champion fencer before he burst onto the entertainment scene, he struts his stuff here, performing his own impressive stunts to perfection. Maureen O'Hara, deservedly dubbed the Queen of Technicolor, is an undeniable vision, with her flashing green eyes and her lush red hair. She portrays the daughter of Artho, a famed Musketeer, and she is easily the match of any man with a sword. Admittedly, the storyline is an intriguing one, with the beseiged Queen of France summoning the sons (and, unbeknownst to her, one daughter) of the original Musketeers to rush to the aid of her beloved country. And, while the climactic uprising of the oppressed French populace stirred us in this, our own, era of powerless citizenry, I must warn you that the film plays like something at a kiddie matinee. The plot is simplistic and the acting stilted. It is beautifully crafted, however - an innocent trifle worthy of a rainy afternoon viewing.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest movies ever made, March 3, 2011

This review is from: At Sword's Point (DVD)
This has been one of my most favorite movies of all time. Of course it helps that I have always been in love with Cornel Wilde but the chemistry between Cornel and Maureen is indescribable. The sets, costumes, and storyline are great. I have had this on VHS for many years and have watched for it on DVD b/c my tape is literally worn out.

Dumas' Three Musketeers have been treated reverently, seriously, light-heartedly, and as farce. This time it's light-heartedly. The call goes out from the besieged Queen of France. The Princess, Her daughter, is being forced into a marriage which will threaten her younger Brother's chances of suceeding their Father (now deceased) Who can be trusted to spirit the Dauphin across the border to friends in Spain? The Three Musketeers! Sadly, though, their days of derring-do are far behind them. The Answer: Their Sons! (Oops, one of them is a Girl!) Ah well, any chance to get a sword into Maureen O'Hara's hand is only to the good. Cornel Wilde is at his dashing best, and the supporting characters are very well cast. A Pleasant way to spend a free Saturday afternoon, and Yes, the kids can watch it too!
