Anyone who's tried installing Windows onto "removable media" has learned the lessons and hassles of workarounds such as the Hitachi CFADisk.sys drivers, or duping the install process by launching on a VHD to be interrupted and replicated to CF cards and the rest of the bs like substituting Embedded versions with their own unique bugs.

But so far, this Syba's controller has presented every CF card to Windows as Fixed instead of Removable including cards including recalcitrant Lexar UDMA Pro Series from 233 to 400x along with the friendlier Transcend that Addonics always mounted as removable.

Just successfully installed Server 2008 DC onto an antiquated 32GB 233 Lexar, installed Windows 8 Pro onto a 400x Transcend without the usual hiccups and crashes setup.exe vomits over removable disks. Whether in the SATA port or the USB slot, they mount as fixed and it makes experimenting with Windows at better than spindle speeds a reality that nerdinga's and boomerangers insist aren't as fast as true SSD's which may or may not be true since unoptimized Windows can stress and waste any SSD worse than the NJ Governors airplane.

Crucial 8Gb Lexar Media Professional Udma 300X Compactflash Cf8Gb-300-380 SSD and adapter costing less than $40 total, the setup runs as fast as a SATA2 7200 RPM drive but uses less battery but creates more heat from a CPU kept busy by a responsive disk.

This product works exactly as advertised. Previous reviews complaining of it being cheap and 'plasticy' are indeed true, but if you are not changing the CF card or the cabling often it should not matter. This worked perfectly for the pfSense router I was building.

The Syba folks came up with a winner on this little gizmo. I have seen the other converters with the circuit boards exposed. But this helps protect from static electricity and makes it convenient to stack with regular SSD's. I'll probably end up getting a few more if they are around. It makes it easy to carry my Compact Flash.

This is a great CompactFlash adapter. I purchased this unit because of the USB interface to connect solid state storage to my home wireless network router via the USB port. This turned out to be an easy, economical, and reasonably scalable starter solution.

I was developing a router based on a Atom 1.6 ghz machine and wanted flash based memory for the drive. This was less expensive and much more effective for use. I combined this with a 4 GB Kingston 133x compact flash and it's the drive I use in the equipment. Works great and easy for compact flash switchouts.

One of the few solutions to a complex problem available.
If you need to mount CF cards formatted as HFS+ onto a Windows PC you need one of these.
I'm certain they're other uses for them as well. Be aware there's no mechanism to eject the CF card and there is no keying of the card so it's possible to plug the card in upside down. Neither are a big issue as the CF cards are designed to tolerate being plugged in the wrong way around. To remove the card just ease it out of the connector using friction from your thumb.

The overall design and material are good. No cheap feeling here. Connection is just great with either SATA or USB (yes, a plus point for the mini usb cable included).

But be aware of the adapter's thickness. It does not completely fit into my hard drive caddy (for Lenovo Thinkpad T410). I can fit every 2.5inch HDD into the caddy with no problem. The CF adapter can get into the caddy as well, but its extra thickness makes the caddy/CF adapter very difficult to be ejected out of the laptop.
