Today I am buying another one.
Harry Brill Jr.
With USB 3.0 it is very fast but it will not be the same speed as my SSD because of the limit of the speed on USB 3.0 but that can't be helped.
Melchior Vester
Comes with all parts necessary to run 2.5" drives without power attachment, and 3.5" with power attachment!

I purchased and used this with Amazon's Western Digital 4 TB WD Red SATA III 5400 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM NAS Hard Drive WD40EFRX, and it worked very well.

Later, I purchased Amazon's Samsung Electronics 840 EVO Series 2.5-Inch 512 SATA_6_0_gb Solid State Drive MZ-7PD512BW. Through this adapter, the Samsung Magician software cannot recognize the Samsung 840 EVO as a Samsung product.

Karl Voss left a great review indicating that the first SATA to USB adapter he used with the Samsung 840 EVO had the same problem, but that a different SATA to USB adapter worked fine. It seems that some adapters do not faithfully pass through the exact drive identification information, while others do. One can argue this is Samsung's problem, but other SATA to USB adapters do faithfully pass through the drive identification information.

I wish I had been aware of this problem before I had ordered this device.

Based on my experience, there's a 50% chance of success with this adapter. Hopefully your experience will be better.

I upgraded from a HP DV3T to a HP Envy 15. I replaced the stock HDD with a SDD and used the HDD as an external. The DV3T has a eSATAp port, while the Envy 15 has only USB 3.0. This adapter fit my needs. The speeds between eSATA and USB 3.0 are very similar. 2.5" drives do not require the power adapter and 3.5" drives do. I tested this adapter with a WD2500BEKT and WD30EZRX. The LED blinks when the drive is being accessed. The only con is that the cable is a tad short.

I don't have any CONS for this device. Below is PROS.

1. The USB 3.0 read/write speed is the same as my external USB3 hard drive.
2. Use USB port to power 2.5 inch hard drive.
3. Include power adapter for 3.5 inch hard drive.
4. Work with hard drives and internal Bluray drive (No need to buy external HDD or optical drives -> Save money).

Note that the cable is about 1 foot, but it's fine with me.

Pros:
Correctly priced
USB 3.0
Includes power adapter for 3.5 inch HDD
Does not require power adapter for smaller drives
Works with devices besides hard drives

Cons:
USB cable is on the short side
The adapter has a lot of play while connected
Adapter does not support drives larger than 2TB!!

I bought this item to use in combination with a Seagate Baracuda 3TB drive (ST3000DM001) as cheap backup storage. While I was initially happy with build quality of the product, soon I found out that whenever I connected my 3TB drive, it would not work (drive appears as unformatted). The drive of course would work with other adapters, so that wasn't the problem. Looking through the reviews it doesn't appear that anyone has tried this with a drive larger than 2TB, and I have found no information that states anything with regards to this. Unless someone says that it has worked for him, I believe that this product does not support high capacity (>2TB drives), which wouldn't be that odd.

Besides that, the product is good quality, although the adapter moves slightly while connected up and done, but it is expected in some degree, and anyways this adapter isn't supposed to be used while in movement. The supplied power adapter is small and works as expected. My only problem is the capacity, but besides that it's good enough.

For anyone looking for adapter, I would only recommend it if you are sure that you are not going to use a drive larger than 2TB, which are going to be the standard in the near future. Personally, I would simply consider another product, just in case.

This device did exactly what I purchased it for, which was to allow me to access an internal blu-ray device with a USB connection. I was subsequently able to burn a 50G DL blu-ray disk without any problems.

I had it connected to a USB 2.0 port, so I can't make any statements about the speed of the device when connected via the proper USB 3.0 connection that it is capable of. However, as expected, data speeds at USB 2.0 seemed a little slow.

When connecting to an optical drive like a blu-ray device, you need to use the included power supply, which worked fine for me. However, when connecting to lower power devices such as a laptop hard drive, this device is able to draw power from the USB port and functions perfectly well without the power adapter.

The form factor was good and easy to work with, even allowing me to connect it to a drive that was in another computer's case. The only problem was the very short cable. You won't have much in the way of reach from your computer's USB port, but it may be worth sacrificing some cable length for the increased portability of this device. I do think that I would rather have at least a two-foot cable rather than the one foot cable that is part of the device.

Great product but a bit expensive comparing to other adapters, it's usb 2.0 compatible and 3.0 that's the really nice thing to have on adapter

This product has performed flawlessly during several hours of use. Its construction is robust and of good quality. Setting it up requires nothing more than plugging in the 2.5" hard disk drive in the SATA connector and the USB terminated cable in a computer USB port. It's a great buy at the quoted price.
