This basic little PCIe card does supports Port Multiplier w/ FIS-based switching and I have verified it on Windows 7 32bit and 64bit operating systems.

Make sure that you load the correct BIOS (RAID or Base) based on what you intend to use this for, It can work with Mediasonic 3.5-Inch USB 2.0 and eSATA Pro Box 4-Bay Enclosure HF2-SU2S2 (Black) and similar EXTERNAL Multi drive bays which requires that you have a card that supports supports Port Multiplier w/ FIS-based switching... This card does it's job perfectly!

Make sure you visit silicon image website and or Google "silicon image 3132" to get their latest BIOS and drivers for the card to have a stable working environment.

ESATA and Port Multiplier w/ FIS-based switching is a old technology, most of the work is now focussed on USB 3.0 interface (SuperSpeed) But that is a whole different subject to debate on...

This Card does what the product specifications say... Nothing more, nothing less...

Happy Shopping!

Thanks to the review from rbhatta on this product, I went ahead and bought it for use with my Mediasonic 3.5-Inch USB 2.0 and eSATA Pro Box 4-Bay Enclosure HF2-SU2S2 (Black). I tried using the box with my M4a79 motherboard, and it worked for a short time, but could never boot the computer with the box connected. Went with this cheap hardware solution and it works extremely well. Using Windows 7 Disk Management it easily sets up a mirror using my two WD 2TB hard drives. Couldn't get any easier.

Excellent little card for the money.

It took a little finagling to get it working under Mac OS 10.8, but I did manage it. It worked out of the box with Ubuntu Linux 12 (and I would suspect any brand of Linux as the SIL3132 chipset is pretty widely used). Didn't try it under Windows so can't vouch for it, but would suspect it would work out of the box also..but, again, didn't try it myself.

Again, it's not going to melt the eSATA cables with speed :P, but it isn't sold as a mach3 RAID card either so you can't really complain.
finagling finagling finagling can say it was faster than my Firewire800 connection I used with the drives before.

I'm using this card with 2 of these Port Multiplers http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005G4TD8U/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00 to make a storage tower with 10 3 TB HDD's, no delays to be had.

Over the years I have found some products that really do a great job without having to pay the brand name price. This fits that category perfectly. The drivers installed easily in 2008 r2 server, the throughput is good, and so far no reason not to smile.

HighPoint Technology makes port multiplier cards that are difficult to setup as JBOD (RR622 in particular). Bad or non-existing tech support.

I purchased this inexpensive card hoping it would work.

Easy-peasy to install and now running 8 hard drives through the 2 esata ports.

No drop-out or anything negative to report.

I just got this card and installed it in a Windows 7 64 bit based computer.

There are two issues with this card so far:

1 - The driver (Version 1.0.15.3 non Raid) does not implement SMART commands so you will not be able to monitor the status of your disks (e.g. temperature, errors etc)

2 - The driver does not implement the "Safely Remove Hardware And Eject Media" functionality that other eSATA interfaces provide. You will have to go to the device manager and manually uninstall the drives that are connected via the eSATA interface when you wish to stop using the enclosure.

Upgrading to driver version 1.0.15.6 non Raid did not solve either issue. Windows 7 installs the 1.0.15.3 when you search for a driver. Driver version 1.0.15.6 is what is provided on the CDROM which is shipped with the card (it is also available on the manufacturers web site). Most folks will need to select the AMD64 option for their processor type when installing the Windows 7 64 bit driver from the CDROM.

I got this card figuring that it might provide a more reliable and better performing interface to a Mediasonic HF2-SU3S2 ProBox 4 Bay Hard Drive Enclosure with USB 3.0 & eSATA. I find it does perform somewhat better than using the USB 3.0 interface on my motherboard (NEC/RENESAS USB3 Controller uPD720200). Neither interface performs well when concurrent I/O is attempted to more than one hard drive in the enclosure.

I'd suggest limiting disk i/o to one device at a time to maximize performance.

windows vista 64 automatically downloaded and installed the latest driver. it works well with port multipliers but i have not tested it in RAID configuration. the driver properties window has a built in tool to update BIOS so there is no need to download the flash software. the latest BIOS can be downloaded from silicon image website. each downloadable BIOS contain 3 files. one has a 'b' in front of the version number, another with an 'r' and the last without any letter. according to silicon image the 'b' is for base/IDE configuration. the 'r' is obviously for RAID. and the one without a letter in front of the version number is for system integration. i have no idea what system integration means so i used the base/IDE version since i will only connect individual drives without RAID. works like a champ!
