5.0 out of 5 stars Works with Polar HR Monitor & Windows 7 64 bit
I installed this device on my new Windows 7 64 bit machine. The driver installed automatically. I was able to communicate with my Polar S725X HR monitor transfer data easily. This saved about $50 compared to the Polar IRDA usb dongle. Very pleased.

1.0 out of 5 stars Will not work under Linux
Despite hours of attempts, this simply does not work with any variant of the mcs7780 drivers under linux, or any other drivers for that matter. It seems a known problem in a number of web forums, and so far there doesn't appear to be any resolution. So don't buy this for any Linux application.

I bought this IrDa adapter to communicate with my ScubaPro UWATEC Aladin Prime dive computer. It works great and costs much less than the one that ScubaPro sells. Works great on my Windows 7 laptop and my Vista desktop computer. If you are looking for an adapter that works with the Aladin Prime this is the one to get.

5.0 out of 5 stars It works to Hotsync Palm Tungsten E to Windows 7 64-bit, July 25, 2010

This was the right solution for Hotsyncing my Palm Tungsten E to my new Windows 7 computer. As noted by others it showed up within days of ordering and worked by just plugging it in. Don't use the mini-disk for driver installation if you are using Windows 7.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you need infrared and don't have it, buy this., October 25, 2010

First, let me tell you why I bought this. I know that PDAs are sort of a thing of the past. But, I still love my Palm Tungsten C and depend on many of its apps, especially PocketQuicken. But with Windows 7 and especially the 64 bit, you can no longer sync with the cradle and USB. Tungsten C does not have bluetooth. So, that leaves out syncing with bluetooth, another option for some palm users. The last option is syncing with IR.

I had the choice of buying this little item or buying a new, expensive pocket pc and all new apps. Moreover, the Pocket PC does not have some of the most important apps I use. The only logical answer was to buy this.

Now, how does it work? Great! All I did was plug it in and started my sync. Yes, the first sync took over an hour. Subsequent syncs don't take that long. And the syncs are perfect. I didn't even use the enclosed drivers.

This little guy is small and doesn't require lots of room like many flash drives and it works perfect. If you need infrared on your computer and don't have it, I highly recommend you buy this. It works super with Windows 7, 64 bit.

After updating my laptop to a 64 bit Windows 7 unit, I found out that that old Palm Z22 would not synch via a cable. Palm was no help nor was MS. Did some checking online and came up with this gem of a device. It works great. No need to buy other more expensive ones on Amazon or elsewhere. Did not even have to mess with drivers. Windows 7 found it automatically. Be warned that synching via wireless USB is about 3-5 times slower than using the cable, but that is your only option if you are using a Palm Z22 as Palm said they did not have a software fix.

As always, five star service from Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great IrDA Solution for Vista Owners, January 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Syba SD-U1IRDA-NM USB Fast Infra-Red Adapter (Personal Computers)
I bought this unit because it had the MOSCHIP 7780 IrDA hardware in it and according to some tech site reviews is the top shelf chip for IrDA these days and has the most complete and up to date driver set.

Well, I'm glad I did. I ordered this little guy at about 30 minutes after midnight on Thursday and by Friday at 9:30 am it was on my doorstep in a smiley box using the Prime 2-day free shipping. (Prime is a pay membership that includes free 2-day).

I plugged it into the side of my laptop running Vista 32 Home Premium, which recognized it right away and installed the correct drivers without having to use the included minidisk.

Within 5 minutes (or less) I was downloading all the saved up exercise files from my Polar HRM...now I'm back in the game! Not bad for less than $15 and WAY less than the >$50 that Polar wants for their huge proprietary IrDA dongle.

Tiny, fast, and cheap! I'm happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best IR converter I have found, July 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Syba SD-U1IRDA-NM USB Fast Infra-Red Adapter (Personal Computers)
Solved a connection problem with a Palm Z22 that began with Win7 64 Bit, which made USB connections to older devices impossible!

I tried another, highly rated converter, which did not work. This one installed instantly. The provided software was not needed. And the connection is very fast, much more than I expected from an IR device.

I am delighted with this product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Real trouble dealing with Windows 7, June 20, 2010

This review is from: Syba SD-U1IRDA-NM USB Fast Infra-Red Adapter (Personal Computers)
This thing is fine if you can get it installed properly. I bought it to syncronize with an older Palm device (Zire 31). Unfortunately, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit has a utility in it that takes control of this device. I cannot seem to get the Palm HotSync software to access the IR adapter because Windows blocks it. There's probably a work around, but I haven't found it yet.

By the way, I cannot find any Windows 7 drivers for this device in the package or on the web. It works alright with my Windows XP and Vista machines. But if you're looking for an easy fix for a Windows 7 machine, forget it. Again, there might be a work around, but you'll have to do some work to sort it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great solution for legacy IR devices, November 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Syba SD-U1IRDA-NM USB Fast Infra-Red Adapter (Personal Computers)
Worked automatically with Vista 64-bit and Windows XP. Did not have to install drivers that come with mini disc.

Only used occasionally with slow legacy devices, so cannot comment on its advertised speed. However, I judge it to be of good quality.
