So the hard drive was kind of secured from contact with the clip, but not in the way it was designed.

I've been using this drive for a month or so and no problems at all.

Like the title says, there are no special instructions for using the adapter. Just plug your mSATA SSD into the socket there and plug your other cables in as you normally would. If you're using it in a laptop, I can't help you since I used it as a desktop adapter while transferring from an old build to a new. It does not limit you to SATA II since there is no logic or controller chip on the adapter that would determine that. It's simply a pass-through physical adapter. Plug and Play! For the price and the amount of time I used it, no complaints whatsoever. =D

This works just fine for mini PCI-E form factor SSDs. And despite the description saying "Not compatible with 50 mm Mini PCI-e SATA SSD's", that is in fact the only type of drive it IS compatible with. And this must just be a typo on the listing, because Syba themselves list this as being compatible.

I did not use this to install an mSATA drive in a normal 2.5" slot, so I can't comment on the screw hole placement issue.

Not all mSATA SSD's work with this adapter. I bought this with the intention of replacing my spinner in my laptop. Upon inserting my mSATA SSD I found that the flash on the under-side of the SSD were interfering with the metal alignment guides of the adapter. Unfortunately, I forced the SSD down and crunch went my SSD. Now my mSATA SSD no longer works. I failed to realize that the adapter was not designed to clear all SSD's. The product's website is clear on what SSD's work with this adapter and what doesn't.

I upgraded my mSATA memory in my ultrabook and had a 128 gig mSATA with nothing to do. So I used this little adapter (a steal at $11.99 with prime) to replace a very slow booting Toshiba with a 2.5 inch hard drive that my wife and guests use. After removing the old drive, I cut a couple of small pieces of popcorn packing material to stabilize the mSATA card, since there is no frame with the adapter, and everything worked perfectly. After installing, I just booted from the rescue media and re-installed the image of the old hard drive. The boot time is only about 20 seconds now!!! What a difference being able to use my old discarded mSATA made in this laptop.

256GB mushin atlas msata works well. Plug and play on windows 7 (remember to activate your brand new mSATA drive through Windows 7 Computer Management tool and create new simple volume). This Syba adapter has a couple LEDs on it to indicate power and activity, which are comforting.

This is a useful adapter, to be used as a tool for diagnosing and addressing issues with mSATA SSDs, not for permanent installations. This only fits full sized standard mSATA SSDs and not shorter half sized SSDs that are popular as integrated small cache drives on notebooks, tablets, and other small form factor devices. I used it with great success to wipe some 24GB mSATA SSDs with GPT partitions that I had lying around.

The price is good and it works as advertised, but the design of the adapter makes it difficult- without doing modifications- to use as anything other than a diagnostic gadget. Another weird thing about this is the positioning of the SATA connection in relation to the board. The PCB is upside down, meaning that the backside of the PCB is facing up when connected to a standard SATA connector's positioning. What this means is if you connect this adapter to something like an external hard drive dock, you'll have this adapter's PCB components and SSD possibly making physical contact with the bottom of your dock. The base of my external SATA HDD dock is bare metal, so I had to slip a thin piece of cardboard at the bottom to prevent this adapter from shorting out on the dock's metal base. If Syba had just flipped the PCB around and used the standard layout, this wouldn't be an issue.

I've had hit and miss reliability from Syba products in the past, so it is for the better that it isn't used as a permanent fixture. This product works and detects connected mSATA SSDs as the SSD device name, not the adapter name, so it's for its purpose, but for no more than diagnosis.

Poorest quality in the clip to hold the mSATA card in place, 1st one I tried (I ordered 4) broke right away.
Doesn't work, as the clip cheap plastic and is broken. I will return all 4.
I ordered these because when I ordered the first one, the clip was metal, not cheap plastic (I am keeping that one).
I thought I would get comparable quality with the subsequent order of 4 (I was wrong).
Note: Both vendor and customer lose when vendor ships poor quality products...

I bought one of these a year or more ago. I used it frequently as part of my IT business.
Recently, I bought a 2nd one (same model as the first) as I thought I could use two to do cloning of mSATA's, etc.

When I tried to use the new one, I noticed that my mSATA cards would not lock down into the clip. After a few of my cards not locking into the clip, I looked closer and discovered that Syba has changed the locking clip. The new one has risers next to the two posts that normally fit into the two holes in the mSATA card. The metal risers actually interfere (touch) with the memory chips ON the mSATA card. I can't be the first to have this problem, so I wonder why Syba continues to use this locking clip? As densities of mSATA cards increase (more chip parts on the card), this will be an increasingly frustrating problem. As it is, I have to be careful not to push down too hard or the risers CUT into the chips. BAD DESIGN, Syba.
