I have never played one of these adventure games before. I tried a demo version of this game at GameSpot. I got hooked and came here to buy it. This was a very good price for both games.

There were some flaws with this game. It wasn't with the play or operation. Some of the action logic wasn't always to my liking. There were spelling/grammar errors in the narration text. There was also one big thing that surprised me. But, these things didn't detract from my enjoyment. They were just little side notes in a terrific game. (And, I used to work as a software tester, so it is kind of my nature to find things like that.)

The graphics/artwork/object/background construction was really great. I loved the buildings, towns, forests, etc. One of the problems I did have at first was that there wasn't any wind. The rivers flowed. The birds flew by. But, the trees and plants didn't move. It was just strange walking through a "frozen" environment sometimes and took some getting used to.

There were times when I laughed out loud playing this game. It was more in the second episode.
I only played these games an hour or so a day and sometimes skipped days. I found that it was a good way to do it because, not only did I get frustrated when I couldn't figure something out, but it also drew out the enjoyment. I will also add that I had a friend playing the games at the same time. She was way ahead of me and is a smarter, better gamer. But, sharing the experience with her was fun. We would talk about Kate (the main character) a lot like she was real person. LOL

I will say that there is a good "hints" website (uhs-hints) out there that is very good. I used it once in a while when I got stuck. I didn't want the answers, just a little guidance now and then.

I read that there is a Syberia III being planned. It may come out in 2010. I will definitely consider getting it based on these two. I can see how the third game can pick up where the second stopped. The big story is over, but there are some openings for the main character to follow.

I will add that I ran this game on a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop running Vista Home Premium. I did not have any problems. I didn't have to run as the Administrator or anything like that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Syberia 1 and 2, September 28, 2008
By
This review is from: Syberia Collector's Edition 1 & 2 (Video Game)
I thought this game was excellent! The story is a little more reality-based with the main character while she makes a journey to places and with characters that one would not normally see in our own world, but that is what is nice about this fantasy world taking place in our own. The puzzles are not very complicated when performed in the correct order. However, the actually graphics and images, as well as the dialogue and culture of these places is what makes it very fascinating. This was definitely an artistic game and not one that involved a lot of wit but some in order to complete it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Games at an Excellent Price, July 13, 2008
This review is from: Syberia Collector's Edition 1 & 2 (Video Game)
The games themselves are engaging and the graphic arts are exceptional. This approach to adventure gaming is a winner. The packaging of the two games together at half the price of one game sealed the deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Syberia I and II - Loved em, August 30, 2010

I am a little ol' lady that does NOT like all the new hyped up games. Fighting, Killing, mugging etc. etc. etc.
Now here are a couple of great games that I enjoyed thoroughly. I go through my games and invariably pull out the "old faithful" Syberia set. I'm getting a little tired of not being able to find better games geared for the older population, so continually bring these out again.
The newer version with both games on a DVD does not have the sharpness of the single, more expensive games. The cheaper games can be played without inserting the disk. But the 'original' Syberia II has to be in the disk drive to play it.
I'm saving the good set, and use the cheaper ones when I'm playing them.
Wish I could find a dozen more of this caliber.
Did I love thise games??

5.0 out of 5 stars Graphics are Beautiful, you might want the play-with-disc-in version, September 7, 2010
By
This review is from: Syberia Collector's Edition 1 & 2 (Video Game)
I have both of these games, though I have them on the older leave-the-discs-in versions. If, as one reviewer noted, this double set, which doesn't require the discs in the machine, has watered down graphics, then you might want to find the old versions. The scenery is inventive and beautiful. In Syberia 1, the moving robots are wonderful, in Syberia 2, the land of the ice is fabulous. This game is more beautiful than a lot of newer games.

In some adventure point-and-click games I get a little bored with the talking talking talking. The Syberias have talking, of course, but it isn't literally the only action for ten minutes at a time.

I had to cheat, with a walkthrough hint, quite a few times for both games. But that's good, I don't want a game that's too easy. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Obscure game, incredible storyline and artistic environment, January 30, 2010
This review is from: Syberia Collector's Edition 1 & 2 (Video Game)
Every once in a while, you'll encounter a game that sticks with you after you play it. The appeal of Siberia isn't just the interesting puzzles, it's a surreal and engrossing storytelling.

Kate, a lawyer from New York, is sent to a small village in France, home to the Voralberg automaton factory. Automatons - not to be confused with robots - are clockwork devices made by the Voralberg family. On arrival, Kate discovers that she must find the last heir of the factory, Hans Voralberg, a genius inventor. Her mission takes her on a train journey following in Hans' footsteps. As she problem-solves her way through strange and intriguing European and Eastern European settings, she discovers more and more about the mysterious genius and his life-long dream.

Many video games move at a frantic speed, so you might find Syberia's calm pace a little off-putting. It's a point and click adventure game, which means heavy reliance on puzzles and not too much action. Most of the puzzles aren't that hard. Others are. In fact, you do reach a point where there would be no shame consulting a walkthrough.

Both games are slightly dated by now, but are a classic to those who have played them from start to finish.

4.0 out of 5 stars syberia 1&2 review, March 9, 2010

This review is from: Syberia Collector's Edition 1 & 2 (Video Game)
This combination of games gives a lot of action for the money, scenery is excellent although I would like to be able to pan around like you can in the Myst series but considering the amount of scenery they got on one disc I can't really complain. An ordinary person can figure out many of the necessary actions and I would recommend players of common ability to go with the walkthrough that only gives hints instead of the solution right away. Sometimes the action cursor was a little slow in indicating where a hot spot was and I missed them until consulting the walkthrough.
Overall an enjoyable game, a great bargain. I am quite satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Art Nouveau Game World, April 24, 2009

The game is 3-D computer animation and all drawn, no photographs. The story line is a quest, part 1 find someone, part 2 find someplace. The puzzles are not real hard but finding all the pieces you need can involve a lot of walking around from scene to scene so collect everything you can the first time. This game is not for action seekers but puzzle solvers. I like the artwork especially.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Adventure Game, February 4, 2009
This review is from: Syberia Collector's Edition 1 & 2 (Video Game)
This is a good deal, [...] bucks for 2 great adventure games! If you want a slower paced, story driven pc game that doesn't require a supercomputer, look no further. All I can say is games like these are basically an underappreciated art form.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Games - Poor Packaging, June 3, 2008

This review is from: Syberia Collector's Edition 1 & 2 (Video Game)
While I already own Syberia I and II in their 2 disc PC versions, they are my all time favorite pc adventure games and I could not resist buying the Collectors Edition and have both games on 1 DVD disc and for such a low price!

I gave the product 5 stars for the game but if I could rate the packaging (like we used to be able to do), I would give it a 1. The outer box is nothing more than a cardboard sleeve with a pretty picture. I carefully peeled off all stickers and while there are no tears, etc. it does take off the clear finish (not a really big deal). However, where I expected to find at least a jewel case holding my prized game, there was a piece of folded cardboard that says all over it, "Earth Friendly, Making A Difference". I'm all about saving the Earth but come on folks! Inside that was the game complete in a paper sleeve. I inserted the game into a jewel case and when I slipped the cardboard cover over it (hey it's got a cool picture on the front) it fell right out. The cover is larger than any jewel case I own. I gave up and decided to just store all my PC games that I keep from here on out in a CD travel case that I originally bought for my car and stash the box back on the shelf, oh well, it looks pretty!

If you are a fan or lover of these games, then I suggest you buy it just for the convenience of the 1 disc DVD game with extras.
