5.0 out of 5 stars If you don't KNOWDAVERBS, you just might miss the lesson.
I guess I was fortunate enough to meet KNOWDAVERBS in person before even knowing he was a grammatical lyricist. Most people who know about Christian Rap Music are skeptical about whether or not the artist really lives the life he portays in his music. Well I'm here to testify that VERBS does live a Christian lifestyle. I found the production of the cd to be OK, but...

2.0 out of 5 stars OKAY PRODUCTION, GOOD LYRICS.
Sounds like rap/rock. I like some of the songs. I gave the CD to my cousin, though. I like Bobby Digital better.

I found the production of the cd to be OK, but VERBS' lyrics are phat. If you listen to what he's saying, you'll learn a few life long lessons. My favorite songs are The Syllabus, Equeena, Strange Dames and Whatever Brings the Sheep. If you're looking for what most non-christians and christians who "ride the fence" call REAL hip hop, you won't find it here. Sorry, no cussing, no fussing, no chickenheads, no weed smoking, no violence and NO constant refences to how great VERBS thinks he is (how much money he has, how many women love him, how many people he can beat down...). For those of you who don't get it--you see, life is not all about YOU. It's about GOD and the wonderful blessings he has for you. Secondly, hip hop is NOT about negative issues like sex, drugs, violence and arrogance. If YOU beg to differ, then why do you always call on God or Jesus when you are in a bind???? Hip hop IS about how well you flow on the mic. Whatever you're into, that's what you rhyme about and KNOWDAVERBS definitely "represents" Phoenix, Nashville and how to live a Christian life. I strongly recommend this cd if you want to listen to good music with a good message. It's cool to be a Christian and it's cool to dig Christians who rap about how they view life. Open your mind and close your limitations of what your mind thinks the English language/grammatics has to offer. Get to KNOW-DA-VERBS and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Christian Hip Hop, June 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Syllabus (Audio CD)
This is one of the coolest cd's to rise out of the Christian Hip Hop scene to date. Knowdaverbs, known for his work on the last two Grits albums, has brought us an excellent album with Christ centered lyrics that teach as we listen. Instead of the constant cursing and drugs that are laced within most modern hiphop, this cd bombared us with Love and shows us that life can be positive if we put God First.

Songs like Iguana's in The Mist, Equeena, and Call of The Dung Beetle entertain and educate. This cd is brought to us by the Great Christian Independant label Gotee records. For even more Christian hip hop check out knowdaverb partna's.. Grits.

4.0 out of 5 stars Knowdaverbs Is A Great Emcee, August 8, 2000
This review is from: Syllabus (Audio CD)
Wow, this CD is really cool. I don't like hip-hop/rap music much, but I really dig this dude's rhymes. Not only is he smooth and fast, he's incredibly intelligent. Some rappers spit out a bunch of ridiculous lines that hardly make sense, but Knowdaverbs uses five-dollar words and plenty of expression to get across messages with spiritual overtones very plainly. I would highly recommend Knowdaverb's freshman release to all who love God and want to hear a rapper really put his heart into what he does. 4 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, May 6, 2003

This review is from: Syllabus (Audio CD)
Let me start off by saying that in general, I have a hard time liking the average Christian rapper/rap group. Not because I have anything against them, but because lyrically it gets a little cheesy and simple at times.
Knowdaverbs is an incredible exception. Lyrically he can craft songs together that are able to avoid repetition, simple and dull lyrics, and cheesy hooks. He writes with depth and style to where you often find yourself thinking more about the words than you do listening to the beats. Also, ask any rap fan and they'll tell you Knowdaverbs probably has the best rapping voice in all of music.
Songs like "Equeena" paint a perfect picture where you almost have to remind yourself it's a song every now and then.
The only reason I gave the album four stars instead of five was for the lack of melody in comparision to groups like Grits. Don't get me wrong, Knowdaverbs still has great stuff, but I personally was wishing for a little more music behind the words and not so much a simple bass and drum line. "Equeena" and "The Syllabus" being execptions.
A great album alltogether though. Definitely a must buy for any rap fan, and even those who are not typical rap fans. I'm anxious to listen to Knowdaverbs follow-up album.

5.0 out of 5 stars People borrow it and they don't give it back, February 17, 2003

People borrow it and they don't give it back - because it's good! I have purchased this CD three times because everytime I lend it out, people want to keep it.

This CD has good beats & strong hooks. Knowdaverbs writes great lyrics that have a great balance of cleverness & real spiritual truth.

At this point, the CD is a few years old, but it still holds up as a great Christian rap CD. Strongly recommended if you like Outkast or Coolio.

5.0 out of 5 stars not a rap fan at all, July 12, 1999
This review is from: Syllabus (Audio CD)
Okay. I usually listen to Fred and the Radicals, you know music like that. Most of the girls in my church don't listen to rap period. When our church went to a Teen Summit taping they passed out snippets. We played the snippets on the way back to Richmond. I went out to buy the tape. My personal opinion is this. If you don't have a true relationship with God, don't listen to this cause you won't grasp any of the concepts. I liked track #2. I especially liked Equeena being an equally yoked queen myself. I thought the song was cool. I also liked Iguanas and the song about tithes and offerings, but I only like the part that Knowda did. I don't know about the whole west coast/east coast styles of rapping and all that, but just try it out. The tape is tight altogether, but of course it ain't Fred :o) Keep up the good work Knowda.

Tight beats and grooves it flows pretty well. I like it a lot. Iguanas in the Midst is a really tight song as well as Strange Dames. So is Giant Slayers. Get it, it's worth listening to and I'm sure you'll like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty durn good, February 16, 2005
This review is from: Syllabus (Audio CD)
This is a fun album by Knowdaverbs. He has good danceable beats for most of his songs and lyrics are entertaining not to mention spiritual of course. Fav 2 songs: *Equeena and *Good Measure. Others include *Strange Dames *The Syllabus *Call of the Dung Beetle. I only give 4 stars b/c it sometimes seems that Knowdaverbs has kind of a talkie feel to his rap and it gets kind of monotone after awhile. Also, some of the beats were kind of bland. But other than that he's fun, check him out!
