Not worth your time even looking at Sylvania Bulbs,

I would strongly recommend NOT buying sylvania bulbs. I bought 12 of these bulbs along with similar energy saving walmart brand great value bulbs. I really did think that I Sylvania bulbs would be better as they said that they had some 8000 or 10000 hours of life. Well, withing 4 months 8 out of 12 I bought went bad. Since I buy these energy saving bulbs, it may be understood that I am big on saving energy, both to save my energy costs and cut some global warming. One went bad today and I decided to write a review so that people would read the review and may decide to save their money by NOT buying this brand.
I do not love Walmart, but I am forced to say that their bulbs are still working unlike Sylvania for which I paid more that Great value.

Initially a great product but poor on life span,
This review is from: Sylvania 13 Watt CFL 8 Pack
I purchased about 3 dozen of these bulbs for my home. I decided to make the switch to CFL to lower energy costs and also reduce heat output in the home. Initially these seem to work quite well. However, 5 months later about 75% of them have quit working. It is unfortunate for me that I spent so much money on a product that does not live up to it's claim.
I wouldn't purchase this product again. I am going to be more careful and read reviews prior to purchasing again. I do intend to contact Sylvania to see if I can get any money back. Best regards.

Extremely poor lifespan,

I purchased a pack of these Sylvania bulbs locally a few months and every one of them have gone bad. The one in the pantry lasted about two or three months. The others lasted no more than about six months. I also strongly recommend avoiding Sylvania bulbs. We just purchased a package of N*Vision bulbs so we'll see if those are any better.

I have had no trouble with the longevity of these bulbs however, you can purchase them cheaper at lowes. $9.89 for the same 8 pack of 60 watts. Check it out.

I see people are not happy about the life span of this product. I use these bulbs extensively. All CF bulbs have life spans based on the number of switches (off/on) and ability to dissipate heat. The life hours rating on the box is ideal only. Turned on once and left on with normal heat dissipation these lamps will burn endless. Expect them to die sooner if enclosed in a mushroom or even sooner if in a spot or track light and even sooner if in an area of high traffic with many switchings a day. This is true for all CFs. Treat them right and they last.

Replacement CFL Bulbs.,

About three to four years ago we almost completely converted our house lighting (inside, outside and garage) from incandescent to compact fluorescent bulbs. The only remaining incandescent lights are one which is run by a dimmer switch, two that are in the refrigerator, two that are in the oven-top light and four in a kitchen light with unconventional sockets. We're rather pleased with this conversion. A change in the electric bill cannot be noticed because there have been too many other electrical appliance changes to keep track of. Some of the compact fluorescent bulbs are now starting to burn out and I'm beginning to doubt that they last ten or 13 (or whatever the number) times longer than the old bulbs, but I have no statistical proof. They just don't seem to last as long as I was led to believe.
In any case, there's a continuing need from time to time to replace the compact fluorescent bulbs, just as there was with the incandescent bulbs, although probably the need is not as high. If you buy them individually, they can be rather expensive. So we bought a multipack as replacement bulbs. The cost per bulb is way below that of purchasing individual bulbs. So far, we've been satisfied. All compact fluorescent bulbs seem to me made by the same manufacturer so price tends to be more important than brand. Gary Peterson |
