Product Description

50 watt - 120 volt - PAR20 - Medium Screw (E26) Base - 2,950K - Reflector Narrow Flood - Capsylite | Sylvania Halogen Incandescent Light Bulb

From the Manufacturer

Sylvania 14502 Capsylite 50 watt PAR20 Halogen Flood, 30 degree beam angle. This is the familiar, classic halogen product that most homeowners and businesses use when they need high light output from small fixtures. The most common uses would be in track lighting and small recessed cans. Halogen PAR flood products provide bright, white light together with high color rendering. This versatile “high-end” light adds to the appeal of home furnishings, or calls attention to showroom merchandise. Halogen PAR floods are a more energy efficient substitute for traditional incandescent floods. The halogen PAR20 is designed to replace a small incandescent flood, also known as an R20. By design, the PAR20 will fit wherever the R20 fits, and the PAR20 also features the same great dimming properties. Halogen PAR20 floods have a “lamp within a lamp” construction. Inside the outer jacket that you see, there is a tungsten halogen capsule, which is the inner “lamp”. This is why halogen products are more efficient than standard incandescent bulbs. And, halogen products do not contain mercury, commonly used in some other types of energy efficient products. Sylvania Capsylite halogen PAR floods also feature SPL optics. SPL is a patented optical system that provides consistent, uniform performance from bulb to bulb. SPL shapes the light to provide a more even distribution of high level light across a broad area. The Sylvania Capsylite 50 watt PAR20 halogen is just one of a family of products that are proudly made in Winchester, Kentucky.

I just received a case of 15 of bulbs from Light-Bulbs PLUS and they do not look like this. The bases are silver not brass. The printing is black, not green. there is no dot-matrix or laser production code such as the one in the reference photo I am uploading. Instead, the bulbs looked hacked together in some back alley. Green gunk and mysterious damage and holes in the lamp bases. Some of the threads were so poorly made that they would not screw into the lamp socket. Even the shipping box had strange surgery on it, with original labels hacked out in three places with clear packing tape covering the exposed corrugations. The weirdest thing I've seen, really! See my photo tour. Worse yet, this vendor wants to argue about it instead of issuing a refund. I think we know how that will be resolved.

Living in the boonies, I like to have a lot of light bulbs on hand. When we bought a new ceiling light fixture for our kitchen we tried a number of bulbs in it. Our light fixture hangs to a little more than 6' above the floor and has two "cans" 1' apart for the two light bulbs. The cans are nearly cone-shaped. They are a matte white inside. The fixture calls for two 50-watt R20 bulbs. Bulbs that are length 20 are just right. 30 length bulbs hang down too low below the cans.

This light bulb worked better than P20 because it has a relatively flat lens, and has a very narrow glass edge that lets out the right amount of light below the "can". The matte white finish inside the cones does not reflect well. The texture on the inside of the lens diffuses the light very nicely and minimizes glare. The two 50-watt light bulbs gave more light than other styles of bulbs that we had on hand.

I could not find this bulb in any local store, thus here I am at amazon and glad to find it.

If you are replacing a bulb, you will find "Capsylite" in the center of the lens. Very hard to read. You will also see "narrow flood" indicated by the "NFL" on the metal side in the middle of the bulb specs.

Note that you may be confused when you thought you ordered a product from OSRAM and what you get is one from Sylvania. These two companies merged in 1993, OSRAM being a German company and Sylvania being an American company with a long history of consumer products in the United States. Regardless ... what you get is a light bulb manufactured in China with the Sylvania brand. This is probably true for just about any brand of light bulb you might order.

The OSRAM website says these bulbs should last 2500 hours. Based on my personal experience - don't expect that. In fact I think the average is closer to 1000 hours. This is based on the fact that I regularly cycle through the 24 bulbs I have in my house and have gotten a good feel for how reliable various brands are. Worst is Westinghouse, Sylvania is next and upon ordering this round of bulbs I expected to test the OSRAM bulb only to find out that they are in fact Sylvania's also.

I have to use halogen lighting in my system because the dimmers are not compatible with compact florescent, so these bulbs are golden. It's a lightbult, name brand, and it does have the microlenses on the glass - the spread is nice, and the price is right. This is almost 10 dollars a bulb from the home improvement store and there is no shipping from the supplier amazon selected.

If you can't go CF for energy savings, then this is a great option. I tried the CFs for dimmers but they created a buzz on my audio video system so back to halogen again for now. Some day these will be obsolete.

This is a "wide flood" which is what our kitchen design calls for. It has nice color, neither yellow nor blue, and is bright (hot too!). The use of halogen downlights can be planned to use "spots," "floods," or "wide floods," depending on their placement in the ceiling and the number of lights you want to install, using the traditional 6 inch Downlighting Cans: Halo H7ICAT Air Tite Recessed Downlighting Incandescent 6-Inch Housing or anything similar. Each covers a lesser or greater area. The "spots" throw light in a narrow 30 degree beam spread. The floods throw their light to greater degrees. "WFL" is always the designation of a wide beam. This bulb has 50 degree beam angle, so it covers a much wider space than the others. I believe these are not as well-known to the public as other downlights.

Therefore, unfortunately, these are not carried in as many places as others halogen bulbs. However, as in many other cases, Amazon was shown to carry it. It's a great place to shop! It is nice to know that we can count on Amazon to be there for future purchases of the same.

Can you even call this a light bulb? I literally had this bulb for one month and it went out. What a waste of money!

Great narrow beam bulb for inside (range hoods, under counter lights) or outside for security or to highlight certain areas of the yard. These Sylvania 14502 50-Watt PAR 20 Narrow Flood Light bulbs have a 30 degree beam spread as opposed to the 10 degree bulbs I have normally used. I like this amount of expanded light bulb ambience better. I will track the life span of these bulbs and report back. Highly Recommended! Five BRIGHT Stars! (Sylvania PAR20, Medium base, Length: 3.25", Diameter: 2.5", 50 Watt, 120 Volt, 30 Degree Beam Spread Average Life Hours: 2500, Indoor/Outdoor Use)
