Not a sylvania bulb,
In spite of the deceptive description, this is not a sylvania bulb. When I searched for "sylvania par30" this one came up, along with "click on other products by sylvania". When they arrived there are non-brand bulbs, but I am too lazy to send them back. They seem to work ok but aren't as advertised.

Great Blub for White Light,

These bulbs generate a bright, white light. They were in our kitchen when we moved in and when we replaced a burnt out bulb with another type the light was yellow and less bright. They are more expensive than other types but we decided having the brighter light in the kitchen was important for preparing meals. At the time we purchased them, Amazon had the best price, beating Home Depot, Lowes, and other internet offers. The bulbs were packaged well, none appeared broken in the shipping.

Just moved in to a new house with down lights in the kitchen and I like it much better than the florescent in the old house. It came with CFLs and they had some cons. They took time to come up to brightness, not much but still annoying. They were not dimable and when they were all on and up to brightness it was great for cooking but not a relaxing area to look at. The reviews of dimmable CFLs all said they did not dim well. The plus for CFLs is that they use a lot less energy and in the summer they will run cooler. The halogen is a little better than normal bulbs (I have seen normal bulbs called incessant and these halogen but the light from these comes from an incandescent piece of tungsten too) I work from home and am trying a year without a car so I think I can use the ungreen bulbs.
