5.0 out of 5 stars Great Vcr
If you are buying this vcr for a home theater system like I did, you will be amazed at the wonderful picture AND sound quality you get from this machine! It even out-preforms my top-of-the-line vcr that I own. Quality for a decent price? You'd better believe it!

1.0 out of 5 stars not pleased
I based my decision to purchase this unit on the positive 8 reviews vs the 1 negative. Should have gone with the latter, this VCR makes noise-almost constantly. The price is appealing but not worth it at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delighted, February 10, 2000
By
This review is from: Sylvania 2870LV 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR (Electronics)
First I must say that the unit was shipped same day and arrived in record time, even for UPS ground. The first thing I noticed was that the unit is small and takes up almost no room. I replaced my almost dead, 5 year old, Sony high end VCR with this one and connected it up. The setup was very strait forward, and the instructions were well written. I played old and new tapes on it to test it out, and they both played with no problem. The fast forward and rewind are very responsive during play, and makes it easy to find what your looking for. Very clear picture, wonderfull sound, and great slowmo even on SP tapes. The lighted remote is awesome, the shuttle dial is somthing you only find on high end units and it worked just as I had hoped. It even worked with my TV and my digital cable box to make it even more appealing. The customer that had the LOUDNESS problem (jet taking off? )when it was playing must'a been crazy, because it was just fine in my opinion. As for the menus, they needed a little clairification via the manual, but once you get the hang of it you'll like it. Bottom line, this is a great value, Don't let the Sylvania name scare you off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Basic VCR, November 28, 1999
This review is from: Sylvania 2870LV 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR (Electronics)
For the price its good. I use Dish Network so i didnt need one with lots of features, even though this does.Havnt had any problems and everything works the way it should.I have paid alot more for less and I highly recommend this model. Most VCRs are to the point now that they are throw aways instead of repair. If you want a HI-FI then by all means dont hesitate to purchase this one..

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved me from buying a $40 Convertor+a $20 Universal Remote, February 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sylvania 2870LV 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR (Electronics)
I have a TV which is not "cable-ready"--it does not display stations above channel 40. Oddly enough, the convertor box at my local wholesale club is priced $40.00 and I was ready to purchase it. Addtionally, I was in the market for a universal remote control for which I was willing to spend $20, but not more than that. These two items total $60. For an additional $40 I purchased this VCR which eliminates the need for both items plus it gave me VCR+ capabilities which I did not have previously. (The manufacturer states that the remote that comes with this VCR is compatible with the following Brands of TV: FISHER, FUNAI, GE, GOLDSTAR, HITACHI, MAGNAVOX, PANASONIC, PANASONIC-GA00, PHILCO, PHILIPS, QUASER, RCA, SAMSUNG, SANYO, SHARP, SONY, SYMPHONIC, & TOSHIBA. (I cannot vouch that it works with all of these, since I only own 2 TVs.) The remote has a button to select a CABLE BOX; a second one to control a TV; and a third to control the VCR.) Mine did not sound like a "747 taking off in my living room" and I am EXTREMELY sensitive to noises--to the point that they can trigger migraines. The customer's review which states that his did sound like "747" did not deter me from ordering since I would have promptly and without hesitation returned mine if mine did. I am very pleased with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised, November 27, 1999
This review is from: Sylvania 2870LV 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR (Electronics)
I ordered the VCR from Amazon.com on Tuesday afternoon, and it arrived on Friday morning. While the unit doesn't seem as sturdy or solid as higher-end units, we've been very pleased. This thing's got about 1,000 features I'll never get around to using. We did try programming the timing for recording, and the proceedure was straightforward and simple. The best thing about this VCR? A price we just couldn't beat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute little VCR with lots of features for very low price, November 14, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sylvania 2870LV 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR (Electronics)
Bought a unit to replace an aging 2-head vcr and was amazed with the features it includes and the performance it offers. Especially for the price. Made completely of plastic though, so hope to never drop one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for its price, December 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sylvania 2870LV 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR (Electronics)
This VCR has everything you need to play and record videos. It has helpful features like a jog/shuttle on the remote, time and index searches, and reasonably easy programming. My only complaints are that it's a little harder to learn than most (but once you have it figured out, it's good), and the motor is a little loud when rewinding/fastforwarding.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Hi-FI VCR to complete you home theater, December 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sylvania 2870LV 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR (Electronics)
This VCR is great...for the price! It gives off a clean, clear picture and the HI-FI sounds great when coupled with a surround reciever. Has ALL the features of any big named VCR, and if quality is a concern, Sylvania is a sub-division of the Funai company (which is pretty good quality).

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome VCR, March 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sylvania 2870LV 4-Head Hi-Fi VCR (Electronics)
$100 bucks barely buys a 4-head VCR, but this one is great. It is fast, another VCR that my family owns takes a couple of seconds to start playing, this one plays immediately. The Jog/Shuttle is the coolest thing I have ever seen. The sound and picture quality is great!
