I was amazed, this bulb can't be more than 2 or 3 inches long all together. It fits perfectly in my recessed ceiling fixtures. But the light is very white and bright, not yellow or dull like many compact florescents, which some would consider good. It is certainly good for high visibility! I just don't find it to be very flattering. It charges up right away, too.

If you examine the photo for this item, the base of the bulb clearly states that the color temperature is 3000K. The items shipped to me were 2700K, which produce a yellowish light that I do not want. I am deeply disappointed that the vendors amazon is using do not seem to understand the very fundamental concept of color temperature. I would not order this item unless you realize that you may get something other than what is being advertized here.

I installed this bulb perhaps a year ago in an architect-style desk lamp. As I was working today, I smelled electrical smoke at some point. Eventually, I narrowed it down to the lamp. Initially, I thought it was the lamp's wiring, but upon closer inspection it turned out that the bulb itself was the source of smoke. Indeed, the base was incredibly hot to touch and it showed heat-caused discoloration. Potential fire hazard.

Lasted for about 9 months. I have other sylvania CFL that have actually lasted over 4 years. The flourecent part snapped out of the ballast in one of the two bulbs. Two stars for lasting for 9 months. Around the 6th month it starts to flicker, I guess that is the warning before it eventually dies.

In my house, I have a number of fixtures where old Edison light bulbs would burn out very quickly. Once I started using this product, I found that the bulbs lasted much much longer.
And the bulbs also save energy; each bulb consumes much less energy than the old Edison bulbs. So, for the most part, I'm a pretty satisfied customer. A down side? These bulbs don't produce as much light as their predecessors. But, do a cost-benefit calculus. Each bulb lasts longer and consumes less energy. In the final analysis, this is the way to go.

I was very dissatisfied with the quality of packaging (one bulb was broken when I received my bulbs) and the quality of light. I needed two bulbs for a ceiling fixture that has an opaque glass dome completely covering the bulbs. Well, the color of the light was awful even in this instance. My yellow-beige walls looked green and the quality of the light was poor overall (it still had that unpleasant fluorescent quality). I even ran an A/B test and the difference between this bulb and a quality incandescent (in this case a Reveal bulb) was like night and day. I am all for compact fluorescent bulbs, but I refuse to sacrifice quality. The only bright spot was that if you want whatever you are illuminating to look awful instantly, this is a great bulb for that because the bulb reached full strength instantly.
