Despite having three LEDs, this doesn't put out much light. It seems quite a bit less than a non-LED flashlight with 2 D cell batteries. I bought two for under my kitchen cabinets. I get up very early and don't want bright lights, just enough to make coffee. Some features that may not be apparent from the product description:
a) It comes with velcro and magnetic mounts
b) It has a contact switch - just brush your fingertip to turn on and off
c) It comes with (cheap) batteries but battery life is excellent

The only con is that the two-sided velcro tape (sticky on one side, velcro on the other) is pretty poor. The sticky mounts would come unstuck overnight. I went to TruValue and bought Velcro brand velcro and it works fine.

I'm buying more for other locations and to make sure I have spares.

--------------
It is now 2011 and they are still doing what I need. I have knocked them off with appliances without breaking and they get steam from the coffee pot with no problems.

Despite having three LEDs, this doesn't put out much light. It seems quite a bit less than a non-LED flashlight with 2 D cell batteries. The light is only about seven inches long and uses three AAA batteries. It has a touch switch which you just barely touch with your finger to turn it on or off. However, you need to touch it with a bare finger for the switch to work. A gloved finger won't operate the switch. UPDATE: The switch stopped working on my light after about a year of infrequent use. Had to throw the light out.

The center plastic tube that contains the LEDs does swivel from side-to-side in either direction about 30 degrees to direct the light.

If you want a brighter LED battery light to stick somewhere, Energizer makes a round push light called the "Hardcase LED Area Light" (about $11). It is about 4" in diameter and heavier, but it puts out much more light (50 lumens) and lasts a long time (31 hours with 3 AA alkaline batteries). The Energizer light has a magnetic base, and it also comes with a metal plate that you can screw into to a wall or can mount on something with 3M two-sided mounting tape.

This is an attractive light with a capacitance switch. I use it in my home entertainment cabinet over my turntable, and it provides bright white light about 2 feet under the light, which is suitable to read a record label or jacket or to check for dust on the needle or other problems.

It looks good and provides serviceable light. I have not seen any drawbacks to its design or function in the past three weeks.

I have two of these in my gun safe and one mounted underneath the cabinet where my microwave is. They are great for lightining an area for a bit. Mine are over a year old and work great, though they're not usually on for more than 5 minutes at a time or so. Just enought light to see to set the microwave at night, or get to this or that in a dark safe. I think they are great. I don't understand the bad reviews, but maybe folks think they should be able to replace plugged in light? I don't know. I think they're great for certain applications and recommend them.

I love the design (the long narrow strip), and I love that it comes ready to be attached to the wall(has wall sticky tape on the back). I also love that it is a touch sensor for the on/off switch. The only part I would improve is the brightness. I just wish it was a little bit brighter. But overall it is a good product.

4.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate stealth book light!, June 11, 2009

Best LED product I've used to date. The three LED's powered by three AAA's should last practically forever. Useful swivel bar shape and a really easy switch. As an LED do not expect this light to light up a room or a carport, say, but if you want a super white, long lasting light this may be the simple solution you need. For me it sure beats stringing wire.

3.0 out of 5 stars Close, but not quite..., February 9, 2010

I bought these as a cheaper alternative to hard wired or plug in cabinet lighting, and got exactly that...a cheap alternative. The lights do a fair job of illuminating the counter tops if the house is pitch black, but the faint glow of the LEDs is washed out if any other ambient light is present. Typically, LEDs do not use much battery power, but within a week of using these for 1-2 hours a night, the lights began to dim and several lost all power within two weeks. The cost of constantly replacing batteries will soon offset any savings of buying these compared to hard wired lighting.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't last, September 1, 2010

This light only lasted for a few weeks. We used it to light up a small closet which it did a poor job of. The adhesive tape that connected the light to the velcro was not strong enough to hold up the light when attached to the ceiling, and the light went out after only a few weeks. I changed the battery, but it's permanently dead. Definitely don't recommend and regret buying this product.

I installed manual keypads on my house (can't be bumped and no batteries to die) but at night even with the outside lights on the numbers are a bit hard to see. I mounted these vertically on the door frame and swivleled toward the keypad and with a tap you can see the keypad easily. Bright, white light. I can see lots of uses for these handy items and the batteries seem to last a long time (sometimes my kids forget to turn it off and it is on all night). Beats trying to hard wire a "dot" light and slim design makes it easy to install in tight areas. Love this product!

1.0 out of 5 stars PRODUCT SUCKS, December 10, 2011
This review is from: Sylvania 36051 Silver Linear Dot It Portable LED Light, Silver (Tools & Home Improvement)
It doesn't stick at all
It has a very small illumination angle
Good idea, but not worth the money. Really 20 words to make a complaint: How about it just sucks.
