1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY
DO NOT BUY!! I bought this TV 14 mos ago. Went to turn on and NOTHING-DEAD. I have had NO support what so ever from Sylvania (SECRET: it really is not sylvania, it is FUNAI) FUNAI SUPPORT is HORRIBLE, reps and supervisor HANG UP on you... No repair shop wants to fix, they claim parts impossible to get. So, in one year, after I paid 700.00 this is going in the GARBAGE...

4.0 out of 5 stars Sylvania 32" LCD TV, November 9, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sylvania 6632LG 32 Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I recently purchased this TV for my family room and I will give you the good and bad that I found. First, the good:

(1) Picture is very clear. Sharp AQUOS might have the best picture but
the picture on this TV is a 9 on a 10 point scale. I do get some
picture "jibberish" on certain HDTV channels from time-to-time but
that is due to the station signal coming from my cable provider
because other HDTV channels are crystal clear 100% of the
time. Therefore, I do NOT attribute that sporadic problem to the
set itself.

(2) Viewing angle is very acceptable. You can sit from 40-140 degrees
from in front of the TV without experiencing any color distortion.

(3) Decent quantity of interfaces on back (2 component, 2 composite,
hdmi, 2 s video, audio out (connection to stereo,etc..).

(4) Easy to understand written instructions and on-screen set up.

(5) The TV is very light and easy to pick up and move.

(6) XBOX 360 looks and plays great on this set - no problems
whatsoever. It completely blows away SDTV.

(7) Audio is very good to me. I turned the set to the highest
volume level and there was no audio distortion or vibration coming
from the speakers.

Now the bad:

(1) The set has ATSC/NTSC tuners but NO Cable Card Slot and no QAM
Tuner. This was not important to me because: [1] Most stations
scramble (or will eventually scramble) their digital signals which
will make QAM tuners a waste of money that adds to the cost of the
TV. [2] I was willing to pay an extra $5/month for the Set Top Box
from my cable provider.

(2) No PIP (Picture in Picture)

(3) The interfaces on the back of the TV are spaced too close together.
For example, it is hard to disconnect component #1 input cables or
composite #1 input cables without disturbing component #2 or
composite #2 input cables. I have large hands so that may not be a
problem for most people.

(4) The remote is CHEAP. It is 100% functional but I thought Sylvania
would manufacture a much better remote given their long history of
manufacturing TV sets. I use the universal remote provided by my
cable provider for most functions.

(5) Base stand of TV looks good but is very poorly designed. When I
simply turned the TV 45 degrees without lifting it off the wooden
TV stand, the TV Base made a circular swirl scratch on the TV
stand. After feeling the bottom of the base, I discovered very
rough edges where the bottom of the base meets the side of the
base. BEWARE - either hang the TV on the wall, cover the furniture
you set the TV on, or always lift the TV off of the furniture
whenever you need access to the interfaces on the back.

Bottom Line, this TV is still worth the money. It was almost 30% cheaper than the Sharp AQUOS 32" and some people would not want to spend an additonal $200-$400 for a 32" Sharp TV when the quality of picture is similar and the standard warranty is similar (Sharp only offers a 1 year parts and labor warranty too). If you don't want to spend the extra money, then this TV is very good. However, Sharp Aquos is better.

Sylvania has more than 40 years of experience in manufacturing TV sets and the company gives you a 90 day labor and 12 months parts warranty. I did get a 2 year extended warranty because fixing these puppies is NOT cheap (if they break). The extended warranty was only $60 so I feel comfortable about this set -- at least for the next 2 years anyway (LOL)!!!

I hope that I have given you some insight into the pros and cons of this TV set but I can say that I am happy with this set to date. There is NOTHING like HDTV regardless of what set you buy!!!

Update: July 11, 2011 - this TV is still functioning flawlessly for almost 5 years now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bravo Sylvania, December 4, 2006
This review is from: Sylvania 6632LG 32 Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I ordered this through Walmart Online last Sunday and it arrived the following Friday. Hooking it up via cable was easy given Sylvania and Comcast's clear directions. I used a Comcast cable box, which allows for recording on two tuners. The HD and analog picture quality are excellent with exceptional clarity and rich color along with opportunity for easy fine tuning. I decided not to buy a service contract, as in general I've had good experience with the reliability of first-class products. This set is, also, well designed with clean lines, fine blackish color, and an understated Sylvania name logo. They, also, found a way to neatly and unobtrusively connect cables to the back of the set, though it makes it a little harder to do the connections.

I was able to get the HDMI cable free from Comcast; If you can't do this, by all means pay a little extra for this cable, which unquestionably gives the best picture. Also, make sure your TV input is selected to whatever input hookup chosen.

The Walmart Online price is $658 plus sales tax, if applicable, and $30 shipping, a real bargain for a good quality 32" flatscreen LCD HD TV with HDMI capability and 1080i/720p signals.

Update, 29 December 2010. Have had the set for four years with not the slightest problem. One of the better buys in my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV for the Bedroom, March 12, 2007
This review is from: Sylvania 6632LG 32 Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
My wife and I needed a new TV for the bedroom. We were sick of straining our eyes with our 25" TV. After doing a lot of shopping and trying to stick to a budget of less than $700, we found this Sylvania. The picture is fantastic and HD programing looks incredible. Even SD programing looks pretty good. Even though we brought this TV for the bedroom, I would be happy with it in any other room of the house. As another reviewer mentioned, the included remote is pretty cheap and it is NOT a learning remote.

1.0 out of 5 stars I just want everyone to know that my TV died 1 month, out of warranty!, June 20, 2008
This review is from: Sylvania 6632LG 32 Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought a Sylvainia 6632 LG in April 2007, this morning it would not turn on. I called the Funai Corporation customer service 1800 605 8353 and was told it was out of warranty and I could bring it anywhere I wanted to see if they could fix it. But, it would not be covered. I believe a $600.00 TV should last longer than 13 months. If your looking to buy, My Toshiba is 9 yrs and going strong. The one star is only because it wouldn't let me submit with none!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a winner, December 22, 2007
This review is from: Sylvania 6632LG 32 Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I realize that this is not a top of the line TV, that it is considered a "entry level" set. We've had this TV about 7 months, and it has developed wide, blue vertical bars down the entire left half of the screen. The repair man says $400.00 to repair a 7 month old $600.00 TV. Save your money, buy a Sony.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy, February 27, 2007
By
This review is from: Sylvania 6632LG 32 Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Bought this at Sears on sale and am completely satisfied. It looked as good as the Sharps and Sonys on the floor, so I said, what the hell and went for it Of course, displays on the floors always look good because they are on a closed loop, but it looked just as good when I got it home. I also bought a 3 yr. Protection policy for $159 which is a bit steep and something I rarely do, but it's expensive to repair these puppies and the policy breaks down to $53 a year which is psychologically more acceptable (the wonders of rationalization). Plus the policy offers in home visits.

Some hints: I suspect most High Def sets bring in reasonable HD pictures, but High Def programming is not that prevalent (unless you buy the more expensive Comcast or Dish TV packages)which means you'll be watching a fair amount of SD(Standard Definition) programs. Often these look lousy on HDTVs -- worse than on your old regular TV -- and that was the case with the Sylvania which I had hooked up with component cables. However, when I connected my box to the TV with an HDMI cable (available for free from Comcast or for $40 or so at Radio Shack and Walmart),the picture was fine, even better than on my old SDTV, a pretty good 27" JVC.

Final note, the only reason the average Amazon rating wasn't higher -- between 4 and 5 -- is that one reviewer mistakenly inverted his rating. He described the set as a GREAT TV" but gave it only 1 star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great so far!, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Sylvania 6632LG 32 Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this particular tv on December of 2006. It arrived in the mail in perfect condition. I was really worried that it might get dinged up but it didn't and it arrived quickly. All we had to do was open the box, slide out the tv and put it on the included stand. It was really more simple than I thought it would be. It's a great size for the bedroom and perfect to play XBox 360, movies, and tv on. Before we got our satellite hooked up to it, we did use rabbit ears to receive the local HD channels, which was fine. I like being able to choose which mode (full sceen, letterbox, etc.) to watch movies on the tv. The remote works well.
