This unit has all the components one needs (photocell, mulitple LEDs, rechargable battery, pushbutton) to make a more flexible unit that would meet the requirements of different types of users. Unfortunately, from my perspective the design falls short.
When the power goes off the light blinks one LED. The light will not stay on constantly until you press the button in order to put it in flashlight mode. Frankly, this "blinking" behavior makes no sense at all to me; I cannot think of a circumstance where one would want that behavior. When the power goes off, I want the unit to turn if it is in a dark place (photocell). It would be nice to give the user an option of having it come on in dim (one LED) or bright (three LED) mode. In addition, it would be nice to have a user option to disable the nightlight feature. This product is OK, but I'll keep searching for one that does what I want.

This product sucks, AVOID at all cost,

Osram is a German company and once would assume they have good products but unfortunately this one is NOT! I bought 5 of these from two different sources and when I opened my first light, it worked, excellent. Opened the second one, the LED output was dimmer like at 25% so it is a dud. I put the second one to use in an area that does not require bright light so it serves the purpose and it is the only one that still working at 25% light output since early Summer. The 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th one all DIED within months, some failed within 2 to 4 weeks. For the price I paid, I do not recommend them at all. I even emailed Osram/Sylvania and they told me they will send me 5 replacement coupons for all the trouble I had encountered but guess what, I got nothing from them, NOTHING! So they made a inferior product and the customer service sucked on top of all. DO NOT BUY this product, the failure ratio is just too high.

I have tried many night lights & emergency lights over the years this one beats them all! It fits flush against the wall and doesn't block the other outlet. It has LED bulbs so it never gets hot. It flashes on and off when the power goes out so its easy to find. It is even a decent flashlight. With LEDs, the rechargeable battery should last a long time. I tried the earlier model, it was way too big and blocked the outlet. I now have three, for different areas of the house, hallway, bathroom & garage. $10 at home depot too.

Power fails and it simply flashes???,

I have come to trust the Sylvania brand but this product's design let me down. The first thing I found objectionable was that it pointed down to our carpeted floor which would absorb much of the emergency light, rather than our light colored ceiling. Then, when I plugged it in, I noticed that one of its 3 LED bulbs is used as a nitelite (why it points down). My experience with LED nitelites is that they burn bright for about 3 months and then dim the next 9 or so until I can barely see them. If that happens with this light, then it is worthless because when I unplugged it to simulate a power outage, it was that same bulb that signaled the outage by flashing. Come on guys, what I want is all 3 bulbs to burn so I can see where I am walking to get to this thing and use it as a flashlight! I don't need a flashing light to tell me there is a power outage. To get all 3 bulbs lit, I removed it from the receptacle and turned the switch from "Auto" to "On." After reading many reviews, I am now experimenting with the DuroFix.

Low profile, does not block the adjacent outlet, bright lights, sensitive dusk/dawn sensor, which is a plus. Only draw back is when the power goes out, the emergency light kicks in blinking. I would prefer to have the emergency light steady... or better yet, have an option to set it to blink or go steady.

I was about to purchase an emergency light for the house but came across this product. This is a great invention. Its a rechargeable flashlight, a night light and an emergency light, all in one. This particular unit functions well and unlike other units out in the market, its from a recognizable manufacturer.
On the down side, the light level is relatively low. Its comparable to a small LED flashlight. Also, since it's always on when it's dark, its obtrusive (which I guess is the point). Still recommended.

I'm giving this light at least two stars because I love it's design and it's features. However, the light just quit working one day and would never come back on! I had the light less that a year and didn't use it much as these types of lights tend to be used mostly for emergencies. For the price I think this light should last a little longer.

We bought three of these lights.
100% failure rate right out of the package. Not a single one lit even once after charging for days.

I purchased two of these at the store in preparation for hurricane Irene. Took them home, let them charge overnight and neither of them work at all. What a bunch of garbage. Now, the hurricane will be here in tomorrow and ALL of the stores are sold out of flashlights!
Sylvania, you suck! |
