1.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful product if it worked longer than a month
First.... I loved this device. I loved it so much that when it stopped working, I immediatly bought another one. The first one lasted for several months (but less than a year). The second one lasted just over a month. I finally broke down and bought a third because my wife and I missed it, but the 3rd one lasted less than a month. I mean really! So in short, great...

To be honest, I purchased this product more as a novelty than to serve any practical purpose, assuming it would prove more interesting than functional. I was pleasantly surprised. This is not a perfect solution, but it is very innovative, provides a very pleasing level of light (I like the light level by itself), good range of motion for the showerhead which makes positioning to taste very easy, temp colors are more useful than I thought and I use the color reference to reduce water waste without having to stand there holding my hand under the water.

Pros:
1) Relatively easy installation
2) Water powered (eco friendly, and a little cool/fun)
3) Light comes on immediately when turning on the shower
4) Temperature indicating color band is very useful
5) Provides a high range of motion for your shower head
6) Power button on the backside lets you shut the light off

Cons:
1) The gap between the halves of the shell casing give it an unfinished and slightly industrial appearance. The casing halves should have a complete acrylic or clear plastic window vice being open. It doesn't impact performance, so it is simply a matter of aesthetics.
2) No teflon tape included with product. A small, and common, convenience for the buyer. If you don't have teflon tape, you will want to order or pick up a roll before your light arrives.
3) The female end of the product, the part that attaches the the pipe in the wall, is plastic and can be over-tightened, which would either split the connector or strip the threads, causing leaks or ruining the unit. Exercise caution when installing, and only tighten slightly beyond hand tight.
4) In my opinion, you should attach the showerhead to the product first, than attach the product to your plumbing (wall pipe) to allow you to control how tight the showerhead is, and prevent the unit from rotating when attaching the showerhead.

Summary: I was stuck between product design at 3 stars, and product innovation and operation at 5 stars. I settled on 4 stars as the product, once installed, is very useful and a little fun. If you are gadget minded, and don't mind the minor tech challenge of changing your showerhead, this is a great way to add a natural level of light to your shower using water power, with temperature indicating color that provides a visual cue to water temperature (I like the dark purple temp). Overall, I was satisfied with the product and the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says, May 28, 2009

Pretty Simple, lights up a shower, lights change as temperature changes. I found mine at Lowe's. They are closing them out for $7.50 right now. Original price $29.99. Not a bad deal for a practical little product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Gadget, April 11, 2009
This review is from: Sylvania 72450 Water Powered LED Shower Light (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this mainly because I wanted more lght in my shower stall.
That said, this works prety well. It obviously didn't light up my shower like Christmas, but it added much needed visibility to a fairly dimmed stall.

One of the great aspects about this product is that it didn't require any batteries or external power source to work as its powered using the water pressure of your shower. Though, I did notice the water comes out of the showerhead with slightly less pressure. Nothing too concerning though.

Also, you can use your standard/existing--perhaps favorite--showerhead with this product, so there no need to use one you don't want/like.

I do have to mention one con about this gadget:
Like one of the previous reviewers mentioned, the end of the product that connects to the shower pipe is made of plastic, so be careful when tightnening this as it can crack.

One last thing, the color-changing ring is a nice added feature, but to me, it's mostly eye-candy. It does work fairly well--it turns a purple-ish color when the water is warm, so it's not just simply Blue or Red.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat Little Toy, September 2, 2009

I got this because I shave in the shower and because my bathroom is all LED's, there's not quite enough light at my shaving mirror. It works great, you can aim it where you want it, and is easy to install. A couple of points about previous reviews. The silicon tape is already applied to the threads upon arrival, you don't need any more. The water flow won't diminish if you take out the flow restriction screen which I always do with my shower heads. This is an excellent gadget and you won't be dissappointed.

Edit: After just two months this gadget gave up the ghost. Perhaps it's buildup from the rock hard water we have in Las Vegas but even this is too quick. Be careful.

I don't know what you might be expecting, it it a pretty cool little gadget, it adds a bit of light into a dark shower...yes it makes some whirring noise with a bit of vibration but not enough to think twice about(hint, it is a tubine, the water spins the wheel, it lights up) so, all in all I am happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product for 5 Months, January 14, 2010
This review is from: Sylvania 72450 Water Powered LED Shower Light (Tools & Home Improvement)
Here's the deal we got ours for $5 on a Lowes Home Improvement clearance sale. The thing worked great for 5 months then all the sudden nothing.. Took the thing apart and found one of the connecting wires got disconnected. (Odds are due to all of the water which some how seeped into the thing. The convenience of knowing the tempature of the water before going into the shower was nice and the little light actually illuminated the area pretty well. Like the other reviews indicated there is a humming noise coming from the unit due to it being a turbine. For $5 which I paid for the thing it was worth it, however if you don't get that magical price you might want to reconsider.

Not worth the money as it worked well initially but after approx. 20 showers the light simply did not work at all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cool but did not last., November 13, 2011

The idea behind this is pretty cool, but it is not bright enough to shower by on;y. It does add some extra light to the shower and the blue/red to tell when the water is warm is nice.

Sadly after about 2 months mine stopped working.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cute idea---- but, October 12, 2011
This review is from: Sylvania 72450 Water Powered LED Shower Light (Tools & Home Improvement)
A cute idea with a few flaws.
Since the water flow produces the required voltage, low flow shower heads also mean reduced voltage (light). There are colored LEDS in the band around the edge of the fixture that turns blue to red as the water heats up. Cool feature. Unfortunately the longevity of the device leaves much to be desired. Mine started blinking after three weeks and the color band died after 8 weeks. Since the light output was more novelty that utility I won't miss having this in my life.
