The description for this item wasn't very detailed, but the other reviews seemed encouraging, so we bought it anyway. Here's what we received: 8 light bars, each about 14 inches long-- 2 of them have the motion sensors (and hold the batteries), and all of them have the LED lights integrated. The light strip bars connect easily end to end, and all the light bars are powered from the batteries in the 2 motion sensor bars. You can stick them on the wall using ultra-sticky foam tape already attached to the back of the light bars. Also nice, 6 of the light bars (the ones without a motion sensor) have a telescoping feature so you can elongate them up to maybe 7 or 8 inches further. This lets you customize the distribution of the lights so all your stairs get evenly illuminated, etc. Bonus pieces: an extra light to stick at the end of the light bar group, and 4 twist-able joint pieces that can be used to flexibly connect the light bars going around one or more corners.
So far we assembled everything, stuck it on the wall, and tested it about 10 times. Our stairs are kind of long and turn a corner, so our configuration is to have the light bars arranged in two separate groups of 4: one group at the top of the stairs, and the other group near the bottom, each group with its own motion sensor. This seems to be working fine. Also, we were wondering whether we'd need to buy another set of these light bars to line the opposite side of the stairs. Now we see that's not necessary, as the LEDs really kick out a lot of light, illuminating pretty much everything. Between looking cool, working well, and the easy install, we're very satisfied with it.

great product,
I have been looking for something to light up a dark staircase leading up to our third floor guest room. This product turned out to be a perfect solution. It only took a few minutes to install and does a great job at lighting up the stairs without being too bright. The sensor turns on the light only when you approach the stairs and there is an ajustment so that you can set the amount of time the lights stay on.
I also like that the design is not too bulky and blends in fairly well with the trim going up the stairs. Overall, I'm very happy with this product and would recommend it for a quick and easy way to light an area without getting an electrician involved.

I was designing a lights system for a dark staircase when I found this product. It was exactly what I was looking for. It has a combination motion and light sensors that worked together so the light does not turn on if the existing light was too high. And the "light on time" is adjustable. It was very easy to install and no electrical hookup were needed. This has been in use for over four months now and has not had to change the batteries. Luckily the wood work was white so it blends in nicely. The design was well done but thought that for the price the plastic frame could be a little heftier. If it was kicked or bumped it with something like a vacuum cleaner, the plastic may easily break.

I just bought the Sylvania LED motion activated guideway lighting kit. I installed the LED lights in the stairway to my finished basement. Installation was very easy and the light is much brighter than I thought it would be. Motion sensors work excellent and the ability to set the lights for 20, 40 or 60 seconds is good however I feel 20 seconds is more than enough time for the lights to be on. You can also turn each sensor off, this is great if you are working in the area of the sensor and do not want the lights on. This product makes my stairway much safer and blends into the top of the stair stringer. I can see so many uses for the Sylvania LED motion activated guideway lighting kit. I am thinking about installing another kit in the hallway instead of using a night light. This would be great in a garage. Thank you Sylvania!

I recently purchased this item because my aging dog was falling down the stairs. I was happy to find a product that worked on batteries and didn't require any permanent installation. The lights stick on the wall along the baseboard and you hardly even notice them. In the dark when the motion sensor detects movement, the lights come on and illuminate the steps. It looks pretty cool when they are on. I am very happy with the lights. My dog has stopped falling down the stairs partly due to this product but also from adding carpet treads on the hardwood stairs. I have 10 steps, a landing and then 4 more steps. I ordered 3 packs of lights but only needed 2 because the lights telescope (lengthen) which I didn't realize when I ordered. There is an accordian attachment to bend around corners; it works well but is a little unsightly. They really stick on the walls well - I have uneven plaster walls and it didn't matter. They might even stick too well, pulling off the paint if you try to reposition them. Be sure you position it right before you stick it on! Overall a great product!

I just got it installed yesterday. Took about 20 minutes. Very easy installation and works perfectly. So far, that is. I have no idea how long batteries will last. We have a dog and I was worried that as he runs up and down the stairs - he will trigger the light and drain the batteries. It appears though, that the sensors are very well calibrated. They only work when it so dark, that it is practically impossible to see anything. When there is enough light for a human to see - the thing stays off.
Few little notes: 1. The lights switch on gradually, they sort of fade-in to full brightness, which is nice and pleasant to the eye. 2. The strip provides plenty of light to illuminate totally dark standard-width staircase 3. All strips (except for the 2 on the ends that hold batteries) are telescoping, which makes it very easy to adjust to fit the length of your staircase. 4. Strips can be connected to each other at ANY angle due to flexible connectors provided in the box. One negative comment: 1. The strip itself is kind of thick. Its about 1"x1" - so while I can't call it an eyesore - it is quite visible along the stairs and can hardly be called decorative.

Easy to install. Very good LED light quality. Adds character to a stair case. I originally thought I would need to install these on both sides of the staircase, but once I installed one side, the amount of light was fine.

After buying a hallway nightlight that was highly recommended, light was still not bright enough to avoid occasionally stepping on my dog in the night. No way that can happen now. These are nice bright lights. I love the sensitivity to motion, and dark.
Two negatives (that wouldn't stop me from recommending this)--the plastic is cheap, but so what, I'm never close to the strips on the floor to tell. The adhesive stickers are too strong, you can't reposition once placed without ripped dry-wall paint layers off. This is a unique solution, I love it!

I ordered this item a few months ago, and am very pleased with it. The lighting kit does a great job of illuminating my staircase (2 story house). The picture showed is a little confusing...for me the kit only went on one side of the stairs, the picture shows two separate tracks. Installation was really easy, and I'm very happy with the new lit stairs (no more stubbed toes at night!)

I had first seen these lights in a Tuesday Morning flyer, but they were no longer available by the time I was ready to order. I found the same product here on Amazon at a good price and after reading the other reviews, I ordered.
We could not be happier with these lights. My husband said he was a bit skeptical, but once he got the lights in place, he was sold. They provide enough illumination to give you a safe trip down the stairs in the middle of the night without being too bright. Our stairs and woodwork are white, and the light sections blend in nicely. They are compact enough that you hardly notice them during the day. We mounted the lights with the motion sensors at the top and were pleased that the sensors are sensitive enough to pick up motion as you approach the stairs from the bottom - i.e. the lights come on quickly whether you are descending or ascending the steps. I highly recommend this product if you live in a multi-level home. |
