5.0 out of 5 stars Sylvania 9006SU BP TWIN Silverstar Ultra, Twin Pack
As I reach my 60th year on this earth, I have found my "night vision" while driving to be less then optimal! Because of that I wanted to have better lighting from my vehicle's headlight's. I also wanted to be in compliance within all 50 states while accomplishing this lighting task.

After a bit of investigation online I decided that the Sylvania 9006SU BP...

According to Sylvania:

For comparison, standard Halogens are rated at 1000/350 hours low/high. Use the S

If you want good lights on a 9006/9005 car, get some Toshiba 911 and 912 HIR bulbs. They'll cost you about $15 more than the Silverstars Ultras, put out more light... and last 5 times as long!

After a bit of investigation online I decided that the Sylvania 9006SU BP TWIN Silverstar Ultra, Twin Pack was the right choice for me.

I have not been disappointed in that choice. Everything touted about the lamps has been truthful, and I'm glad I did make the switch from the OEM lamps to these.

I suggest anyone needing a similar improvement for their night time driving do the same!

The Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs are the best auto headlamps I've ever used. They are as bright as you're going to get without upgrading to high-intensity lights. My primary concern, is the life of the product. My first set lasted 8 months, and I don't have day running lights and I assume I use them as any other average/reasonable driver. I was unhappy with that set, so I researched more on Sylvania-Osram's website and they have posted on their website a description that says these specific lights do not last as long as less bright lights. That makes since, but 8 months?!?!

Their customer service was excellent and sent me a new set immediately after my complaint. Before installing the new Ultra's, I put in Sylvania's lights that are one step below these, but are still supposed to be relatively bright. Those were pretty good, but also only last 8 months. I'm now back to the Ultra's that they sent me, but after that...I'm not sure if I want to spend $40 - $50 ever 8 months.

I replaced my standard Silverstars (three years old) when one went out. The representation of 30% longer life was important. They seem to be brighter and cast a nice flat plane on the low beam. Very nice in foggy conditions.

I liked the brighter, whiter light but not the SHORT life. One burned out in about 10 months.

Update 10/2009: since they lasted less than a year, Sylvania sent me a new pair for free. These lasted 15 months. Better, but subpar. I still like the added benefit of the whiter, brighter light, I just wish for $35 they would last at least two years.

well, I just installed these bulbs today and they exceeded my expectations. They are very bright, give great "down-road" vision and good sideroad vison. I've heard some complaints that they aren't as bright as people expected, but I think that they expected it to be like having the high beams on all the time. It's not quite like that, but you can see much further down the road and off to the side. Also, it's a lot easier for me to interpret what objects are with the white lights than with the yellow lights. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I haven't had them for very long and I'm not sure if they will last as long as I expect them to (I'd like to get at least one year out of them).

2.0 out of 5 stars Sylvania Silverstar Ultra, August 25, 2008
This review is from: Sylvania 9006SU/BP SilverStar ULTRA High Performance Headlight Bulbs (Low-Beam), Pack of 2 (Automotive)
Compared to the regular SilverStar, the Silverstar ULTRA headlights were supposed to "last up to 30% longer". I have used the Silverstar in the past and decided to give the Ultra a try. They only lasted 6 months. I installed them in Dec. and they burned out in June, the left and right bulbs burning out within 2 weeks of each other. Their brightness and performance is great, but they just simply don't last as long as I think they should. Come on, at least last one year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Negative reviews unnecessary., March 13, 2011
This review is from: Sylvania 9006SU/BP SilverStar ULTRA High Performance Headlight Bulbs (Low-Beam), Pack of 2 (Automotive)
For everyone giving negative reviews on these bulbs because they don't last long, you are unfairly rating the item. These bulbs have great output. Improves visibility at night way better than any other halogens I have used. I've used them for about 5 years now and they have never disappointed me. Sure, the longest I've had a set last was 13 months, and the shortest was 10. It is expected if you want this type of light output from halogen bulbs. Sylvania makes it perfectly clear that these bulbs have a very short life only because of the stress put on the filaments in order to achieve the light output demanded.

The very first set I bought years ago I did not know what to expect, and when they burnt out on me I complained like everyone else to Sylvania. They asked me to send the bulbs back and reiterated their statement that these bulbs will not last long. Its printed on the back of the package. Guess what?! They sent me a pair of new bulbs! Thats what I call customer service in a day and age where it seems customer service is lacking from every major corporation not named Apple.

I installed these about a week ago into my car. They are definitely a whiter light than what originally came with the vehicle. Do they actually extend further and improve safety? I don't really know. If they do, it's not obvious. If you buy them on Amazon, it's worth the price. My local auto supply store sells them for $55.00 and these lamps are not worth that much.
