5.0 out of 5 stars Whats wrong with people?
I have had these in for about 13 months and no problems. Allthough I do know how to correctly install. DO NOT TOUCH THE BULB GlASS!!! The finger oil will severely shorten the life span.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sylvania SilverStar H1ST are junk!
The light output of the Sylvania SilverStar H1ST lamps appears to be as advertised. Unfortunately, their performance is severely marred by SHORT LIFE. I installed a pair in my lowbeam headlights in October, 2008 and I replaced one last month and the other today November 3, 2009. They only last 12 to 13 months before burning out! The high price compared to ordinary...

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, September 16, 2010

I have a set of the Ultras in my Dodge Ram. I put them in the truck Dec 2008. I do roughly 6 months of night driving a year (I work at night, not to mention it's dark for most of the winter here in Alaska). I put roughly 30,000 miles a year on the truck. They are still working fine.
Temps down to -40*.

I got a pair of these lights in August 2009 for my 2007 Honda CR-V to get a little boost to the lighting (and the better looks). After installation i turned the lights on and only saw a slight difference (mostly in color) from a slight yellow to a nice white. Only after i started driving did i notice a bigger difference, which included the brightness (increased range).

Supposedly Silverstars have a short lifespan (less than a year) but they haven't burnt out yet and i drive fairly frequently at night. Proper installation is critical to bulbs, especially ones that burn hot. Any oil/sweat from hands on the bulbs significantly shortens their life span so i used rubber gloves to avoid that, guess it paid off. Happy with my purchase and will purchase again once these (and the spares i bought) run out!

1.0 out of 5 stars Sylvania SilverStar H1ST are junk!, October 8, 2009

The high price compared to ordinary Sylvania H1 lamps is just one annoyance; the other aggravation is that it is very difficult to replace the headlamps in my 2007 Mazda 6i. Note: I'm an electrical engineer and I was certain that I did not get any fingerprints whatsoever on the lamps when I installed them last year. I just installed a set of HELLA Xenon blue that I bought at COSTCO online for a good price. We'll see how those compare.

this is my 4 headlight bulb in 3 months. jeez. If I didn't like the clear white light so much more than the regular yellow light, then I'd purchase something else. shipping was great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Only if they would last a bit longer, January 11, 2008
This review is from: Sylvania H1 ST BP 8 TWIN SilverStar 12V 55-Watt High Performance Halogen Headlight (Automotive)
The Good:
Looks wise they are somewhere in between regular halogens and HID Xenons. Brightness is maybe 15-20% more than the regular halogens.

The Bad:
While I've better luck with their lengetivity compared some other users, the first set lasted about 11 months (both blew out withing 3 weeks of each other).

The Ugly:
The second set already has one dead and it they are only 9 months old.
Plus, this may be a coincidence but it seems they hate cold weather. Each time they blew out was when temps dipped below 25F.

Spend a bit more and buy PIAA Extreme Whites or Hellas. They have been known to last 5 times as long (relatively speaking)

Got a set of these babies to replace the high beams on an S2000. I replaced the passenger side first and then turned on the lights to do a side-by-side comparison. The result: almost no difference in color from the stock halogen. Definitely disappointed.

I bought the SilverStar Ultras to replace the factory bulbs in my brand new 2011 Kia Sorento SX. The difference is amazing! The light is much whiter and brighter than the OEM bulbs. Also, I can see much further down the road and the left and right side of the road is now illuminated.

Installation took about 5 minutes on my vehicle. I just made sure to wear gloves and to not touch the bulb (so as not to get oil on the glass).

I've heard some people having problems with the life of this bulb. I guess I will wait and see how long they last. So far it's been 3 months with nary a problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Things to know about headlights, February 10, 2011
This review is from: Sylvania H1 ST BP 8 TWIN SilverStar 12V 55-Watt High Performance Halogen Headlight (Automotive)
This product was worth the money for me. I have horrible night vision and they provide enough light so I can see on unlit roads. Sometimes people aren't aware that gloves need to be worn when installing bulbs. Oil from the hands can damage the bulbs and make them burn out quickly. Also, brighter bulbs don't last as long as dimmer ones. Common sense should answer the why question on that one. It burns brighter hence.... I do have to say that I bought mine from Autozone for cheaper than Amazon, and I didn't pay shipping. Saved $30 going to a local auto store.

I live in the mountains of Southern California. No streetlights, endless winding roads, and tight curves. I NEED bright headlights that illuminate further than the average. There could be a boulder or a tree around that next curve! It's happened before! My 2001 Subaru Forester had awesome headlights...my new 2007 Forester...not so much. So these headlights do exactly what I need them to do. I understand that the special engineering of these bulbs means a shorter lifespan...it's worth it to me every time I take to my dark mountain roads. THANK YOU SYLVANIA! It would be cool if you could re-engineer some longevity in these next! :)
