4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value
My experience with my DVD/VCR player has been very good. I wanted a unit for my bedroom that would have all the features I wanted, without being terribly expensive. This unit fits the bill. The remote in particular is great. All the most useful functions are right at your fingertips and are easy to find, even in dim light, since some buttons are red and some are shaded...

2.0 out of 5 stars Buyers beware!
This combo drive is pretty lousy in important places.

First off, the DVD drive. It will freeze during movies and click and bounce around inside the player. Sometimes it will stop clicking and start back up after a minute or more, but other times it will have to be totally shut off.

And secondly, the VHS player. It plays VHS movies fine except...

My experience with my DVD/VCR player has been very good. I wanted a unit for my bedroom that would have all the features I wanted, without being terribly expensive. This unit fits the bill. The remote in particular is great. All the most useful functions are right at your fingertips and are easy to find, even in dim light, since some buttons are red and some are shaded with dark grey. My favorite feature is the Resume Play, which allows you to pick up a DVD at the point that you stopped it, even if you turn the machine off. Many of your less expensive DVD players do not have that feature.

It has S Video and Component Video output available, but I found that the cables that come with the machine produce quality picture and sound. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a lower cost DVD/VCR combo.

This combo drive is pretty lousy in important places.

First off, the DVD drive. It will freeze during movies and click and bounce around inside the player. Sometimes it will stop clicking and start back up after a minute or more, but other times it will have to be totally shut off.

And secondly, the VHS player. It plays VHS movies fine except for some annoying problems. About a month after purchase the player started squeeling when fast-forwarding or rewinding. Now this might be only annoying, but it makes me question the quality of the machine considering it started one month after purchase.

Overall, the only positive feature is the abilty to watch local channels and VHS tapes. That is pretty sad, because this thing should do a whole lot more.

5.0 out of 5 stars VCR/DVD Player Combo, March 31, 2009
This review is from: Sylvania DVC865F Progressive Scan DVD/VCR Dual Deck (Electronics)
This VCR/DVD combo is becoming hard to find because it has a built in tuner. I can plug my incoming coaxil cable into the back and run another from my unit to the TV. This is good for me because I don't have a digital set-up.

I have other Sylvania VCR/DVD combos that perform adequately for recording TV programs. The only negative is that you need to record on standard play rather than extended play to get an undistorted picture.

The vcr unit is almost hopeless when it comes to recording. When you play back, the picture keeps rolling. Adjusting the tracking helps little if at all.
Annoying since the recording settings are fairly intelligent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review for Sylvania DVC865F VCR/DVD Dual Deck Player, December 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sylvania DVC865F Progressive Scan DVD/VCR Dual Deck (Electronics)
This product was ordered from Amazon Market Place, with the seller being Discount Jungle. It was a reconditioned player, but it was the one that had the features that I was looking for and it fit the bill for it's intended purpose. It was easy for me to get it set up and running as all I had to do was remove an old VCR recorder/player and put this one in it's place. I am satisified with the player, and one thing that I did want in this player was the DVD/VCR combo so that you could use both media. There is one thing, however, that I would criticize here and that would be that the remote control for the unit did not have an eject button for the VCR/DVD as the instruction book shows. It appears that Discount Jungle sent a remote control that was similiar to the one in the owner's manual, and most of the buttons are the same with the exception that it didn't have an eject button. Other than being disappointed with the remote that came with the unit, I like the unit and am satisified that it was as advertised. I would have rated it five stars if not for the wrong remote control.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great!, June 4, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sylvania DVC865F Progressive Scan DVD/VCR Dual Deck (Electronics)
I ordered this unit to replace an older model because I needed ad DVD/VCR that HAD A BUILT IN TUNER! THIS ITEM FIT THE BILL. Not all VCR/DVD'S come with a tuner built in. I need the tuner because I have cable TV and I can just plug my cable into the vcr and run the cable from the vcr to the TV.
I took it from the box plugged it in and was using it within 2 minutes. Setup was easy as can be. This did come with the manual, rca cables, remote, AND THE TUNER CABLE I NEEDED. Most of these do not come packaged with a direct cable tv to vcr cable so this was a BIG plus. No batteries included for the remote but since this was a reconditioned item I really didn't expect them.
The cost of this item was better than I could find at a local Wal-Mart with no tuner. The shipping was super fast and the seller was great.
I don't think you could go wrong at this price. It works just great and I am totally satisified.
REMEMBER: This item is equipped with the built in tuner but can be used with the rca cables as well so either set-up you have this will work for you!
I rated this with 5 stars because the item and the seller both desrve them!

Machine in it's self is passable.
However the remote was DOA and the seller doesn't seem to be in any hurry to replace it.

The unit arrived quickly and works well. It's hard to find units that still play VCRs. The price was very reasonable. I have given it 4 stars because the remote doesn't always work.
