5.0 out of 5 stars Great right out of the box
I primarily used this item to transfer several types of media to DVD. Two types of camcorder tapes and VHS home movies were easily copied to the hard drive, then edited on screen, them burned to DVD. 1.0 out of 5 stars trouble prone
I bought this unit to replace a failed VCR. It sounded like it had some great features, 80 gig hard drive built-in, DVD to tape transfers, etc. It does. The only problem is the only ones I could find were refurbished. And it was defective, most likely never even tested. I waited until after our vacation to set it up. Big mistake. Turns out the clock does not work,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great right out of the box, January 1, 2007
This review is from: Sylvania HDRV200F 3-in-1 DVD/VCR Combo with 160GB Digital Recorder (Electronics)
I primarily used this item to transfer several types of media to DVD. Two types of camcorder tapes and VHS home movies were easily copied to the hard drive, then edited on screen, them burned to DVD. This unit has lots of features so reading through the owners manual to figure it all out was something I was not used to doing. The on screen editing is very straight forward once you read about it. I was very impressed with how my old 8mm and mini-DV tapes looked after moving them to DVD. I haven't used all the features yet, but look forward to it.

This unit only used DVD's that are DVD-R or DVD-RW.

4.0 out of 5 stars useful tool, September 8, 2009
This review is from: Sylvania HDRV200F 3-in-1 DVD/VCR Combo with 160GB Digital Recorder (Electronics)
The Sylvania HDRV200F is a dated machine, probably from 2005, and I use it only since similar units are not currently being made. You can dub from DVD to HD and reverse , and from VHS to either DVD or HD. It is not programmable to VHS for some reason.
The editor is really why I purchased the unit, and it works precisely and very well. You can edit out commercials to the very frame and then copy them to DVD for your collection. It is tedious, but not nearly so as the Samsungs I have used in the past. They no longer offer editing. And it is a quantom leap from using 2 machines in real time.
The only problem I faced with this machine is the durability of the DVD recorder. All DVD recorder stand alone units are fragile, and will break even under the gentlest of care. Play only DVD standalones are far more reliable, and while I understand creating DVDs is not very popular, manufacturers should make better recorders if they sell them at all.
The unit comes with an obsolete tuner, but not a problem if you have cable.

We just needed a simple to use DVD / VCR combo playing / recording device for our kids and for us. This product is great. Simple to install. It does exactly what it says. For somebody who is technically challenged like myself I just needed something I could plug and not have to worry about complicated operating instructions. I would highly recommend this product and am very pleased with our purchase.

This review is from: Sylvania HDRV200F 3-in-1 DVD/VCR Combo with 160GB Digital Recorder (Electronics)
This refurbished DVD/VCR has worked quite well and gives a lot of flexibility for viewing different media. The 160GB hard drive is a great way to record without the degredation in the media, over time, as you have with VCR tapes. The added benefit of better resolution makes viewing a pleasure. So far, the system has been fairly easy to use.

This is a great product. I had some issues with hooking it up but that was me not the product. The remote is a little confusing lots of buttons but after awhile I was able to figure it out. The directions are confusing and make it really hard to understand so I just sort of wing it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sylvania 3-in-1 digital recorder is a good deal, June 7, 2009

This review is from: Sylvania HDRV200F 3-in-1 DVD/VCR Combo with 160GB Digital Recorder (Electronics)
I purchased the Sylvania HDRV200F 3-in-1 DVD/VCR Combo with 160 GB Digital recorder from Discounts Online, Inc through Amazon for a birthday present and was somewhat disappointed that I had to return it for several reasons. I was, however, very pleased with the professionalism and speed that Discounts Online corrected the problems.
I have now (finally) given a great gift that is very appreciated and greatly enjoyed. I'm told that every thing works now as it should and it is used constantly for recording television shows and watching both DVD videos and VHS VCR tapes.
Thanks Amazon for the connection to Discounts Online who I will continually recommend to any one looking for electronics at a great price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, March 31, 2007
This review is from: Sylvania HDRV200F 3-in-1 DVD/VCR Combo with 160GB Digital Recorder (Electronics)
I'm very happy with this unit. Great picture quality, easy to use, good remote, speedy, quiet, lots of hard drive space.

Here is the biggest flaw I have found: The thumbnails of the recordings play from the very beginning of the recording, so most likely what you see is the end of the previous show or a commercial, unless you start your recording exactly when the show you want starts. This product would be better if the thumbnail started about 3 minutes into the recording, so you could recognize the show. Other DVRs do this. Fortunately you still have the title, date, time and channel to know which recording you want to select for viewing.

Still I'm quite pleased and think this is one of the best options out there.

Turns out the clock does not work, making it useless except as a player. And the reseller has a 30 day return policy, so I just threw away $145 on a piece of junk!

3.0 out of 5 stars Could be great if the clock worked, June 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sylvania HDRV200F 3-in-1 DVD/VCR Combo with 160GB Digital Recorder (Electronics)
I bought this from Discount Jungle and I have nothing bad to say about the seller. The first unit had a defective clock so they quickly replaced it. The second unit came and the clock worked long enough for it to be out of warranty. Now, it is worthless as a DVR unless you are recording something real time. Not a good buy refurbished or otherwise. Also, the DVD player has some problems reading certain disc. This unit works well for transferring old 8 mm tapes to disc, but its other features leave something to be desired. If you are looking for something to transfer your old home movies, purchase a cheaper unit without the hard drive. This one is not worth the extra money for a feature that does not work.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT ITEM!!, February 5, 2010

This review is from: Sylvania HDRV200F 3-in-1 DVD/VCR Combo with 160GB Digital Recorder (Electronics)
After researching different brands of DVR`s, I settled on this unit and now, after using it for a full month, am completely satisfied with it. Not owning a DVR before, I found this unit to be fairly easy to learn, and it provides ALL the features I need. I record my camcorder vhs tapes directly to the hard drive, and then "leap frog" them to a dvd, I also edit different scenes and am able to create the "perfect" home movie. I realy would recommend this product as I find the versatality of it truely amazing......
