5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product
My wife purchased this for me about a month ago, and I love it! The TV has all of the features that more expensive TV's have but at an excellent price. I have friends that purchased more popular brands, and paid a lot more money. Trust me - you can't tell the difference, it performs just as well. The images are crisp, clean, and colorful. I highly recommend this product!

2.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive = cheap
One month ago my review would have been a solid four stars, but this month (just three after my one year warantee expired) the picture completely conked out. Customer service was polite and helpful and walked us through all of the possibilities besides it being shot. Now it is at the shop with a temporary estimate of $150-$300 (from 3 different places) but we are still...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value, August 22, 2009

After looking around at many brands I decided to get the Sylvania. I found it at Target on sale for $599 and snatched it up! The picture is perfect and has all the features I need to watch my movies and tv shows. The digital tuner also works very well where I live. I had another 42" flatscreen before this one (it was stolen) and it works just as well, if not better. Very happy with my purchase!

1.0 out of 5 stars Sylvania LD427SSX, October 24, 2011
This review is from: Sylvania LC427SSX 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Purchased this TV/BLU-Ray combo player on 6/6/2010. Was very happy with it until today when the picture went out on it. 10/24/2011 Of course Sylvania said too bad for you it's out of warranty. Go fix it yourself. Read some online reviews and this is not an uncommon problem. Stay Far Far Away from this TV! 18 months of usage is ridiculous! Going to try and get it repaired if not too expensive. Would give it zero stars if I could!

Now it is at the shop with a temporary estimate of $150-$300 (from 3 different places) but we are still waiting for the official diagnosis. We only paid $500 for the TV and I am left with the question of whether it is worth fixing!

We've had this TV for about a year, and had nothing but trouble with it. It's been in the shop 3 or 4 times, and it always breaks again - they've replaced board after board, but it doesn't stay fixed. It's great while it works, but we're not super impressed with customer service either. They really should have replaced the TV for us after the third or fourth breakdown. Now the warrantee is done, and it's broken again. Not a good purchase for us.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice TV but..., February 26, 2010

For starters, this is a good TV. I picked it up for my grandma and she really likes it. Just be careful if you're going to try to work this thing with a universal remote. I've tried 4 remotes and none of them work. I called the cable company and sylvania and didn't get any real help from either. So, as long as you want to use two remotes...good buy. If you want to just use a universal (or even program your cable remote to it)...good luck.

Just as many of the other reviews say on here, just after my one year warrenty expired...the picture went out on this television. Sylvania would not replace it, but did tell me a way to reset it which takes which takes about 30 minutes. So now about 2-3 times per month while watching TV it just goes out. Very annoying when you are in the middle of a good show. In addition, after every hour or two of use, there is a large knocking sound that comes from this TV. Very strange. I'd recommend to any consumer to spend the extra money to invest in a better television

5.0 out of 5 stars Should I have waited to read reviews?, August 23, 2010
I bought my TV August 2009. Everything is great except the audio on HD channels. Intermittent snapping occurs after the TV warms up. I have had my coaxle changed, my Dish Network HD receiver upgraded. It still happens. I bought the extended warranty thank goodness. I have had two parts replaced for the audio and there is one left that I am waiting for the shop to get in. The sound all together is not that great. To have good sound I am told you need some external speakers. This may have been just a bad TV and never happen in the others. Just wanted to let you know my experience. I hope the last board helps but I can't say, I have been trying to get this fixed for almost a year now. Target wants to replace it but no tax and no warranty. Plus I have to buy at Target. They don't have this TV anymore and everything else is about $300 more. I love the TV but not the snapping.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value for the money, August 3, 2010

I've had this set for almost a year, and I have been very happy with it. I also got it at the Target sale last August, which was an unbeatable deal. Basically, "what everyone else said."

As someone else noted, its remote control codes are "oddball", and few "universal remotes" will operate it. The DishTV remote did not. An MX-350 from Universal Remotes does operate all functions on it (Menu, Input, Aspect Ratio, etc) but that's a pretty expensive remote.

However, if you have a "learning remote" that can copy the signal from an existing remote, its codes aren't so oddball that the codes can't be learned. I was able to program the power on/off code into my Tivo remote with no trouble at all, even though none of the "Sylvania" pre-programmed codes worked. I'm sure the volume up/down could be programmed in the same way, but I do that through my stereo.

One thing I wish it had is a VGA input so I could hook a computer to it, but for me, that feature's not worth the extra cost for the sets that had it.

This might be a set that it'd be worth it to get the extended warranty on. Mine quit working just short of the one-year warranty. (Sure beats it waiting another week to have the problem!)
