5.0 out of 5 stars perfect for my kitchen fixture

Living in the boonies, I like to have a lot of light bulbs on hand. When we bought a new ceiling light fixture for our kitchen we tried a number of bulbs in it. Our light fixture hangs to a little more than 6' above the floor and has two "cans" 1' apart for the two light bulbs. The cans are nearly cone-shaped. They are a matte white inside. The fixture calls for two 50-watt R20 bulbs. Bulbs that are length 20 are just right. 30 length bulbs hang down too low below the cans.

This light bulb worked better than P20 because it has a relatively flat lens, and has a very narrow glass edge that lets out the right amount of light below the "can". The matte white finish inside the cones does not reflect well. The texture on the inside of the lens diffuses the light very nicely and minimizes glare. The two 50-watt light bulbs gave more light than other styles of bulbs that we had on hand.

I could not find this bulb in any local store, thus here I am at amazon and glad to find it.

If you are replacing a bulb, you will find "Capsylite" in the center of the lens. Very hard to read. You will also see "narrow flood" indicated by the "NFL" on the metal side in the middle of the bulb specs.

Note that you may be confused when you thought you ordered a product from OSRAM and what you get is one from Sylvania. These two companies merged in 1993, OSRAM being a German company and Sylvania being an American company with a long history of consumer products in the United States. Regardless ... what you get is a light bulb manufactured in China with the Sylvania brand. This is probably true for just about any brand of light bulb you might order.

The OSRAM website says these bulbs should last 2500 hours. Based on my personal experience - don't expect that. In fact I think the average is closer to 1000 hours. This is based on the fact that I regularly cycle through the 24 bulbs I have in my house and have gotten a good feel for how reliable various brands are. Worst is Westinghouse, Sylvania is next and upon ordering this round of bulbs I expected to test the OSRAM bulb only to find out that they are in fact Sylvania's also.

5.0 out of 5 stars 30 degree microlens wide angle for 3 bucks less than home store, December 11, 2009

This review is from: Sylvania 14502 50 Watt PAR20 Narrow Flood Light Bulb / 30 Degree Beam Spread / 120 Volt / 50PAR20
I have to use halogen lighting in my system because the dimmers are not compatible with compact florescent, so these bulbs are golden. It's a lightbult, name brand, and it does have the microlenses on the glass - the spread is nice, and the price is right. This is almost 10 dollars a bulb from the home improvement store and there is no shipping from the supplier amazon selected.

If you can't go CF for energy savings, then this is a great option. I tried the CFs for dimmers but they created a buzz on my audio video system so back to halogen again for now. Some day these will be obsolete.

4.0 out of 5 stars One in Eight did not work, October 3, 2010
This review is from: Sylvania 14502 50 Watt PAR20 Narrow Flood Light Bulb / 30 Degree Beam Spread / 120 Volt / 50PAR20
I installed 26 recessed cans with these bulbs. Three burned out between 60 seconds and 120 seconds of use. All the others have been working fine for almost two years now. So, if they last more than two minutes you should be golden. They do provide a great "crisp and white" light. All mine are installed with dimmer switches. I've noticed that incandescent lights buzz and humm with dimmer switches, but these are dead silent. Perfect (after two minutes).

I needed two bulbs of this type for my new range hood. I ordered 3 so I would have a spare on hand. Upon receiving the bulbs I put two in the hood. One did not turn on. I put in the extra and fortunately it worked. They work well and give off lots of light so we will usually use only the first two of the three brightness settings. I hope that this will increase the life span somewhat. I am a bit worried that they will not last well.

I gave this three stars since the bulbs that work provide nice light but I am very concerned about the overall quality.

I bought two of these bulbs, because they are the only size that will fit into our apartment ceiling lights. They're quite expensive, so I figured I'd give Amazon a chance with my light bulbs. I don't think I'll be doing that again! I bought two, and one immediately wasn't working. I just figured that it got messed up in shipping and shrugged it off. The other one was working fine... for all of 2 days! It burnt out within 48 hours! I'm not sure what the issue was, but as I already threw away the boxes I couldn't return them... so there goes my light bulb purchasing experience on Amazon. These bulbs are crap and I'd definitely not get them online!

Very poor quality. 2 of the 4 bulbs I ordered burnt out in one week so I returned them all.

I flicked the light switch on the wall, and voila! It lit right up! Mr. Edison would be proud.

I'll be ordering a half dozen more since the light level/color matches my others.

This review is from: Sylvania 14502 50 Watt PAR20 Narrow Flood Light Bulb / 30 Degree Beam Spread / 120 Volt / 50PAR20
After having much bigger flood/spot lights, I was rather disappointed in the small physical size of these bulbs. I used each to replace their larger looking bulbs. When I replaced the older b ulbs and turned this on at nite for illumination of my USA flags, I was amazed at the amount f light which each produces. These bulbs are wonderful and I am reordering today.
