The Sylvania Power Failure lights serve two purposes - they are environmentally friendly night lights + they help light up your room in the case of a power failure.

What we like-
1- They make nice flashlights - they come in especially handy in spare bedrooms. If you have house guests these will be life savers
2- Everything is LED so the lights pull less than 1 watt of electricity
2- Auto-eye turns the lights off when there is sufficient light available.
3- Built in rechargeable batteries serve as a backup in case of a power failure.

I just received these units before Christmas following intermittent power outages from recent storms. I placed one in each bedroom and in the hallway and they worked perfectly during an island-wide power outage a few nights ago. The "flashlight" mode kicked on immediately following power loss and was a great help in locating flashlights without any stumbling or fumbling in complete darkness. The nightlight feature is a bit bright but you get used to it and the light sensor is excellent and very sensitive. I've had other nightlights that remained on all day from not being in direct sunlight but these units are very sensitive and only come on when they are supposed to. My only gripe with these lights is that their design (plug in the middle) takes up both outlets as others have mentioned. This might make it difficult for those of us with little free outlets or outlets with only 1-free plug. Other than that, we are very pleased with the peace of mind knowing we'll never be completely in the dark when power fails.

Works great. Provides light as a night light and also provides peace of mind. Put one in the bathroom in case the power goes out while you are in the shower - you will still be able to see. Convenience of using it as a flashlight is great too, although I have not done this yet.

Light sensor on auto mode for the nightlight is very good. It only comes on when it is dark, unlike other nightlights that we have which stay on unless they are in direct sunlight.

Overall, this is a great product that I would hightly recommend.

This light unnecessarily covers *both* outlets, the nightlight cannot be turned off, and the annoying red LED indicator is always on instead of being a low power/charging indicator. Add the fact that the nightlight is ridiculously bright, and you have a pretty badly designed product. TechNGnet's return policy may mean that it's not worth returning these. I am not a happy camper, not least because four of the five LED emergency light products I bought from/through Amazon this order have had disappointing shortcomings, have been a waste of my money, and are not worth the cost of returning. I'll buy products like this locally from now on, so I can try before I buy.

We recently purches a couple of these 3-packs. It didn't take long before one of them stop functioning properly. When we plugged it in, the red charging light comes on for a few seconds then fades out and the flashlight never charges. After the first one failed, I assumed it was just one bad one out of the six we bought but now most of them have failed in this manner. I have notified Sylvania of the issue and hope for a reasonable resolution. I would avoid this product until they improve the design.

This pack I bought is to add on and replace the identical ones I bought for my home a little over a year ago. Out of the 3 I had originally purchased, 2 were still decently bright, but one was almost completely dead. I left them plugged in, in the auto mode, so perhaps the batteries never got a chance to go through their complete cycles. But these do a great job of being an auto sensing night light (that turn off when the normal lights are on), and are just bright enough to work as emergency power failure lights if the power goes out. But with 1 of 3 failing after just over a year, I can't give them 5 stars. After cycling that 3rd light's batteries several times (unplugging it and turning the light on until completely dead, then plugging it back in set for "off"), it works better now, but is still not nearly as bright as when first purchased, and unplugged, the light only lasts a few minutes. But they were a great price, and serve their purpose. All you really need is a couple minutes of light from them so that you can find your normal full-sized flashlight etc. I rate them a solid 4 stars.

These units plug into a wall socket to charge. In the mode I use, they turn into an LED nightlight automatically when dark and turn on automatically during a power outage. You can also unplug from the wall and use it as an LED flashlight.

A great idea, but of my 3 units, two are showing symptoms of possible failure; the flashlight feature has started to glow gently on two of the units (the third has not yet developed such symptoms). More light at night... maybe so, but such changes (and I haven't had them long) does not inspire confidence.

Having had these flashlights for over two years now, I can say they are highly recommended. They may look a little fragile, but one of them has been in my tool box for my job, and it has proven itself all this time. I use them every day. I plug them in from time to time, about once a month, but the batteries have never actually gone low. I wish the flashlight were a little brighter, but this is not a criticism. I have been using flashlights for my job for the last twenty years, and I like this one the best by far because it is rechargeable and lasts for a long time before needing to be charged again. And they are cheap! I would give it a rating of 6 out of 5 if I could. Very highly recommended. Today (6 Aug 09) I decided to buy three more.

I looked around for this type of product. What "sold" me on this one was the picture showing that it only used / covered one power outlet. However, after buying a box of these, I found that the unit cover BOTH outlets. Not so good for me and my older home where every outlet is of value.

On the good side, these work like a champ! Great night light that snaps right on when the lights go out. The flashlight is powerful enough to get you out of your house and to safety.

If you need your other outlet / socket, consider another brand.
