I got this portable DVD player for myself a few weeks ago and so far I am very happy with it. The color and appearance are great. The picture on the 7 inch screen is very clear. I haven't had any problems with skipping or anything. It is also very easy to use. My 6 year old daughter likes to watch it with the headphones when I'm using the big T.V. that way she can watch her cartoons and doesn't have to leave my side. And even though she has dropped it, spilled bubble blowing solution on it, and stepped on it, it just took a lickin and kept on ticking.
It would also make a great gift for someone who travels a lot or who is in a nursing home. And you cant beat the price. You definitely get your moneys worth with this Sylvania portable DVD player.

I bought this for my 3 year old daughter Christmas of 2009. She has watched it nearly every day, dropped it, scratched it, put her fingers in the dvd "needle" thing, and it continued to to run everytime. It finally died last week. I definately got my money's worth out of it and will purchase another one this week. The picture quality and sound was great too!

I got this for my daughter for Christmas and she was thrilled. It comes with a remote control and a very wide screen. The sound is wonderful not too soft and it is not touchy, it doesn't skip. For the price I highly recommend.

This item worked great the first few months, now the battery is shot and to send it back to them to look at it and replace they want 45.00 and that does not inclued the price of the battery which is 65.00!! I have cleaned the player and the dvd's still skip, the top will not shut yet can barely stay opened either. Got this item in May and was hoping for a bit more longevity to make the car trips easier on our child. Never again will I purchase this brand!!

I've just finished putting my new '7014 through its paces, & I'm pleased. I primarily bought it to have a little distraction in my workshop, where it'll spend almost its whole life plugged in. And while it doesn't have GREAT sound, it's a pretty good CD player, easier to find a place for amid my clutter than the boom-box, & only a bit bigger than the old Walkman. (If I close the lid almost all the way, on a rubber stopper or something, this gives better midrange.) The little remote is dustproof & damp-resistant, PERFECT for the shop, & lets me control tracks & volume from at least 20 feet away. All in all, this is exactly what I need, at a good price.

For a couple of DVDs I tried, I had to have the volume cranked to the pegs to hear clearly in an open room. This might not be a problem with earbuds. The good news is that there was almost no distortion with louder sounds & soundtrack music.

The biggest downer I can foresee is the batteries. While the LiPoly cells are generally a great device, eventually they will start to lose power-holding ability. In the DVD player, there's no easy (or presently cheap) way to replace the cells. I'm hoping that the internal charger circuit doesn't do something odd to "protect" the dead cells by disabling the unit -- because the '7014 looks like it could be useful for quite some time with either the wall-wart or car cord.

Speaking of which: there's a good market for those cords. I sold my car-cord to another owner (whose dog had chewed theirs up) for $15.

Also, I'm not sure I'd be happy having LiPoly batteries around small children, large dogs, or clumsy adults, as I read they're capable of bursting into flame if shorted or punctured. That's probably why they're usually sealed into devices like this.

All in all, it's better than I was expecting for only $60.

i bought this originally because i was travelling and needed some entertainment....system works great, battery lasts a long time....when a friend of mine went on an extended stay in the hospital, i bought a second one for him....great system, great price....i'd recommend it to anyone

I bought this DVD player for my grandaughter for christmas opened it and played one dvd on it. It has never worked or played again. Was very unhappy with this product, not to say a very unhappy child. I do not recommend this product. D Golliher

The first one of these tiny DVD players I bought--an off brand--lasted for two years. After two others lasted for only a year, I tried this, as it was least expensive of the type. It started giving me problems with the fit of the power plug at about four months. Now, at about seven or eight months old, it's on the verge of dying, sometimes not playing, sometimes not reading perfectly good discs until I turn it off and on several times. You'd think these manufacturers could come up with a product that would last through one lousy year. But no.

I bought this because of a discounted price, and as it was for a child, I didn't need a top-notch player. Unfortunately it never worked. It just said "loading" on the DVDs I tried and never played them. Now I'm returning it for a reliable company's player.

Actually loved this item for my daughter. The picture was so clear and it was nice and compact. Problem is, it broke in less than a month. Now we are trying to send it back to get repaired and we have to pay $8.00 right off the bat, plus shipping. On top of it, he said we would probably end up with a refurbished one. My husband basically told them that we bought it new and we want a new sent to us, not a used one. Very disappointing. -Kristen
